He won for his performance of "Sofa" on the Zappa's Universe tribute album in the early 90s.

I thought Steve has won a Grammy but as a producer not as a solo artist.

He's also a Trustee of the LA chapter of the Grammys academy or whatever. Maybe that accounts for his nominations every time he has an album out *LOL*

Actually he has won a Grammy for "Best Rock Instrumental Performance" for Sofa as well as for producing Larry E. Carlton & Steven Lukather's live album.

I was watching some stupid VH-1 show the other week and some has-been comedian said "The White Stripes are one of those bands that someone somewhere said was cool and everyone went along with it without questioning."

I agree

While I do like a couple of their songs ("Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground" for one), overall I couldn't listen to them all day without going insane. The guitarist has some talent, I'll admit that, and the only reason he keeps that sh!tty drummer around is because he likes to "limit himself" to force himself to be creative.

even Steve himself likes them... i read that in some interview. I can't stand them except for half of that "Seven Nation Army" song. Really Grammy's aren't worth much these days. However, music is what it is. You can't impose your taste upon others...

TOLERANCE

My brother grabbed their Elephant disc, and played it around me a lot. As a result of this, I have two observations:

1.) they sound like a drunken led zeppelin. And, considering how often zeppelin was drunk anyway, i'm not sure why we really need them.

2.) "Ball and Biscuit" is an honestly good blues tune. Like, Muddy Waters good. sure, the guitar playing isn't much, but that's just a badass song.

Not sure but you may be able to use this in your argument somehow,

"But as far as rock stuff, I hate to mention it, but it’s true — I bought the White Stripes’ new record Elephant, and I really like it a lot. I couldn’t stop listening to it for a long time. It’s just so stark and out of time, out of tune, and beautiful, all at the same time." S. Vai.
