How heavy is Metallica?

So I'm eating dinner and the news comes on the TV. There was report on illegal 'black metal' concert an gatherings around the country. It stated that this was against Muslim law due to the use of satanic symbols and the like. Somehow they traced it to Metallica, whom they stated as the forerunners of 'black-metal'. Now, I know Metallica has always been a bit heavy for my taste, but it never occured to me that they would follow satanism. Is this true?

NO

Try Venom instead their album BLACK METAL is more along the lines you are talking about. Along with tons of other bands but not Metallica

Re: How heavy is Metallica?

I have to say that Venom's "Black Metal" album isnt 100% black metal (at least it isnt even similar to nowadays real black metal -except maybe for the lyrics-) , i mean, you just cant talk about black metal today comparing everything with Venom , i hope this isnt confusing/offensive (?) for anyone, they did influence lot of black metal albums, but isnt exactly black metal, they didnt define the genre, its like talking about black sabbath and metallica.
If you guys want to listen to raw black metal, liste to: Dark Funeral, Dark Throne, Nargaroth.

I just did a Google search on Venom, and I read somewhere that it HAS influenced bands such as Slayer and Metallica. I somehow knew Metallica wasn't that heavy.

The media.
How can they trace black metal to Metallica ?
(Maybe it was a young reporter and hasn't heard about Black Sabbath)
Hmm let's just find the biggest metal band around and blame them.

"Ini buktinya!!! Pesta Black Metal!!!"
(translation - Here's the proof!!! Black Metal festival!!)

Re: How heavy is Metallica?

Black Sabath and later Venom amd Mercyful Fate have influenced bands like Slayer and Metallica but also Bathory, Mayhem, Emperor, etc..

Venom is hardly a black metal band, in terms of the music, but they did pioneer that aesthetic (which draws heavily from Sabbath). I would say Bathory is more of a proto-BM band.

Metallica just happens to be the most famous and recognisable band in the very general "metal" genre, so clueless people tend to associate them with the whole satanic black metal thing, even though the only thing they might share with the scene are the influences...

You know who friggin rule as far as goes metal? Opeth. That's who. Great awesome mellow acoustic stuff, and some melodic metal in there too. And those guys can really play too.

I keep hearing that everywhere, especially about their new album. Maybe it is time I check them out.
