How to stop Steve Vai 'singing'

Watched the Japan and London gigs...

Why doesn't someone tell Steve, he not only can't sing, but looks bad and hurts ears trying to sing. He just can't sing, and his songs are crappy crap. He doesn't even seem to enjoy it. (Neither does anyone else - they couldn't enjoy it anyway.)

Did anyone ever hear the song 'hurdy gurdy mushroom man' by Neil of the Young Ones (80's UK). It's THAT bad.

You've got like this amazing guitar player whom we all know and love, then he's trying to do something he can't do. How can his ears be so excellent as they obviously are, without realizing how embarrassingly awful his singing is? Now THAT is a question for which there will be no sane answer.

And I would just like to add (Sorry Steve but you made the video and I had to watch it and suffer it)

His singing is toneless, devoid of emotion, "cringingly" weak, pathetic noise.

Are you kidding? ""Toneless, devoid of emotion, 'cringingly' weak, pathetic noise."??? Is you smokin' the crack, son? Steve is a BRILLIANT singer! Heck, my favorite album is Fire Garden, and it's largely because of the vocal songs. I even hear echoes of Freddie Mercury in certain spots(Listen to the way he sings "A tribute to the world..." in "Brother". Sometimes I even hear a bit of SRV in there. But, it all still sounds like Steve.

He sings his @SS of on the Astoria DVD!! I honestly think some of you guys are nutty.

Re: How to stop Steve Vai 'singing'

Hey's not a great singer by any means, but he's making progress- I hear echoes of Live's Ed Kowalzyk on "Voodoo Acid," especially.

His lyrics aren't generally that great, true, but hey, as long as he's happy.

Re: How to stop Steve Vai 'singing'

As far as i know, Mr Vai can't really sing well sometime ago.. But lately i think that he did improved in his singing, pitching and stuff. Watch the G3 DVD. I think its not bad! Even Joe's vocals were pretty much improved!

unless well, with the help of sophiscated modern technology, they re-recorded their voices into it. hehe.. They're not bad! At least better than Britney for me! hehe..

Some of Joe's lyrics do the same...Especially in "Lifestyle." Neither of them could make it solely as a singer, but I don't think that either are that dreadful. Look on the bright side...at least they aren't terribly out of key.

I was wondering if it was just me, since I never heard anyone else say it before!

Re: How to stop Steve Vai 'singing'

Why would anyone post such negative nonsense? Every CD player has a skip and eject button. Every radio has a dial. Learn it, live it, use it.

Steve will never be Geoff Tate or Steve Perry, but for the love of ... what's the point in being so harsh? I'm sure Mr. Jemoctave is both an incredibly talented guitarist and vocal virtuoso to be able to toss such barbs at a highly regarded musician who's (whether you like him or not) changed the face of guitar and music for millions.

How childish.
