I met George Lynch last night!

George is the man!
he's so totally humble and modest, it's like an extreme opposite to some rockers like malmsteen
really great bloke, got to chat and joke around with him a bit and i got him to sign some stuff

i asked about the old serpent models, he said he doesn't play them but has a few of the black and white ones sitting around, the coloured version with the reversed(left handed) body was just an idea for looks he said, but when he actually played it the non existant lower horn cutaway made it sh ite

he played a few songs and apologised for being out of it from jetlag,(all his songs were i think just improvised over backing tracks he didn;t even seem to know well)
the first 2 songs were a bit all over the place, but then he got warmed up and into it and the next 4 or so jam songs were all awesome, with some great melodies and phrasing, great skills and insane control considering how low his gain is

he had a buddha wah which sounded great BTW

he had his new module based randall amp there, which is still unfinished apparently. personally i didn't like it but that's just me

my friend got his Tele signed and George was pretty admiring of it, he said he really needs to get one..
he played his snake and skull ESP, he also had a V he said was his new model, but he didn't play it and didn't talk about it apart from a quick mention lol, i suspect it's ESPs idea moreso so there's a mainstream model with Lynch's name on it

enough babbling, George is awesome

peace

Awesome! Congrats, man. George Lynch is an amazing player, i've always been a fan of his, I really like his work on Tony MacAlpine's Maximum Security too.

Yeah, Geo is a great guy, he's pretty low key but has a kinda warped sense of humor.

Re: I met George Lynch last night!

Georgy Lynch one of my main influences in the 80's for a while all I played was Lynch, I even tried to look like him and stuff!!! (what a geek!) he was awesome, until he kind of jumped wagon and started to try to look and sound like todays music, I have nothing against change but let's face it he sold out!
It was so sad for me, particularly because I respected the guy a lot and loved his style but now he is like this completely different player in every sense of the word.
He can't even play his old songs anymore!!! when he came to the House of Blues here in Chicago about 2 yrs ago with MSG he totally sucked!!! believe me guys you'd never catch me saying that about one of my heros but it's the truth.
he played mostly his new stuff but when he did the Dokken tunes I was like
ahhhh what the hell is this?!? he played them down tuned, the vocals were horrible the solos were nowhere near of what he used to play in studio or improvised, they were sloppy, sucky and brief he was more concerned in showing off to some blondes in front of the stage than playing a decent concert, what a poser!!! that's when I realized that the man infront of me was a caricature of a once formidable player, He lacked the fire he used to have in the 80's, I saw Dokken and Lynch Mob back in the good old days and that guitar player was totally different, In my opinion he was more into the music then, now he is just trying to make a buck and trying to "make babies with his YOUNG wife" I'm quoting from his most recent Lynch Mob DVD.
The only saving grace of that concert was Michael Schenker, again it's a shame I have to say this of a player that influenced me so much but I stick to the facts and as far as his personality goes don't think he is all that great
either, some say YJM has an ego but Lynch is not that far behind, he is a hit and miss (like any other human being I guess?!?) but he's been known to ignore fans just because he is too busy hooking up with the chicks.
I really wish he played with the passion, the fire and chops he had in the 80's
staying true to himself and the genere that made him famous but I guess that's wishful thinking the 80's are gone and people move on I just wish not in such a radical direction... oh well!!!

Re: I met George Lynch last night!

he's 51 man, ppl don't even LIKE staying the same all the time yknow

dunno bout ego.. doesn't he constantly apologise for his playing etc?, he even apologised for talking in clinic saying he must have been boring us etc lol

when a chick asked him what he benchpresses he actually dodged around the question cos he didn't want to brag, just saying why he got into fitness etc

i think most of us would skip fans for chicks....

Love George Lynch when he was with Dokken. He has good melody and I love most of the riffs in his "Tooth and nail" album. Why oh why George did you have to leave Dokken? They could be an awesome and legendary band if they had stayed together.

I don't blame him. this is what it looks like:

but that's cool you got to meet him, I think he's a great guitarist and he has some of the coolest looking guitars. I've always wanted one.

Re: I met George Lynch last night!

I think the the first LM disc, Wicked Sensation, was his best work, and the best band he's worked with. DD's vocals get on my nerves, Oni was a much better singer IMO (even when they did the Dokken songs live, he had a much better voice). Anthony Esposito, the bass player on the LM discs, is also a super cool, down to earth guy. You can check out his last/latest project at www.pure13.com.

Have you seen the "Dokken - One Night Live" DVD? It's all accoustic (except Geroge) He plays his strat. I think it's pretty cool. They play all their old hits plus some new songs. Love the solo song that George plays
