I need some new cds!!!!!!

I really wanna get some new cds, Im bored with what I have I need new tunes!!!!!!!

Heres what Im into...

I listen to stuff like Dream Theater, Symphony X, Black Label Society, Vai, Pantera, Ozzy, I just got into Children of Bodom but I hate the vocals.
And lots and lots and LOTS of SHRED!!! like Rusty Cooley, Fransico Farari, Yngwie, Michael Angelo. I also Like Rockabilly and country like Danny Gatton, Scotty Anderson, anyway you get the idea.
What bands or players should I look into?

Re: I need some new cds!!!!!!

Look to other genres. I tied myself down into the shred/prog genre for quite a while, and stuff all starts sounding the same after a while. Look into some electronica, jazz, folk, etc.

Re: I need some new cds!!!!!!

Porcupine Tree, Allan Holdsworth, King Crimson, Jeff Beck, Devin Townsend, Hellborg/Lane/Sipe, Jethro Tull, Opeth

I don't really know why I'm posting this - I guess it's just a list of great music that is tied to what you like, but also more out there in some ways.

Jeff's advice is good, it's nice to diversify things a bit. I used to be a lot into straight-forward rock for a while, but then decided to expand my horizons a bit. Once you get over the fact that you all of sudden listen to genres such as "pop" "jazz" "country" "ambient" "classical" or "electronica", you realise there is a whole world of great music out there.

Now playing: The Beatles - Abbey Road, great timeless music.

Re: I need some new cds!!!!!!

Well if you havent already, defenitely try Shadows Fall and Arch Enemy. They are two of my favourite metal bands. Its a shame they dont get more recognition. Then I'd go back and listen to all of the Slayer, Exodus, Sepultura, Extreme, Dokken.....stuff like that really! Even maybe going back and listening to some of the "good" Megadeth stuff, e.g. Rust In Peace, Countdown To Extinction.

Then if you get a taste for really heavy stuff, then you can move onto Meshuggah, Deicide, Brujerio. But that stuff is extremely heavy.

If you are looking for more shred, you might be out of luck. From the list you said you have covered most things. Defenitely give Paul Gilbert and George Lynch a try too though.

At this precise moment I am into Van Halen a bit. Some of their stuff is just timeless classics.

Re: I need some new cds!!!!!!

How about Iced Earth, or maybe the Hellecasters.

Iced Earth is Iron-Maiden-ish, but sort of more intense, but definitely not in nu-metal way.

Hellecasters is three guitar players each with distintive styles, shredding like crazy, I'm not sure how to categorize their music. "Hell III: New Axes to Grind" is a good one. (It's not metal, despite the name.)

Pick up a copy of Galactic Cowboys' first CD. Kind of a twangier Kings' X. For that matter, try Kings' X.

...and Bowling for Soup. Everyone needs a Bowling for Soup album, whether they like slickly produced punky guitar pop or not. ;-)

Re: I need some new cds!!!!!!

I think i'm the only one on this forum who isn't into the whole prog/intrumental/virtuoso scene so much. Vai is pretty much the only one of "those guys" I can listen to, b/c of his song writing. I mean I used to be down with all that stuff, and I've scene Dream Theater 5x, Vai 3x, Satch 2x Rush, et ect,oh and Symphony X ( I can't listen to them, due to the horrible vocals and my immense dislike of power metal, and genres of that type, but i wanted to see romeo live and tix were like 12 bucks so...)
I work in a guitar store, so I have an extensive knowledge on alot of great jazz players, instrumentalists and just kick ass guitarists (all my boss' 45 year old friends come in and play that stuff as they complain about how the current wave of music is garbage), as well as the wave of 80's shredders and stuff but, i like modern emo, post punk hardcore, punk, screamo and all that type of stuff. I'm not to big on nu metal, as I dislike almost everything I've heard with the exception of some early System of a Down stuff, which I thought was pretty unique and cool.

BUT, I'll stop rambling, and get on with my reply to th question you posed.

I second CAB, b/c Tony Mac is the man, and the second cd was outright awesome, killer chops, and some memorable songs.
I would check out Racer X for chops, Extreme for good rock songs with BAD ASS guitar playing, and some Vital Information (gambale) for some cool fusion stuff with a mellow edge.

As for stuff I listen to regularly now, *keep in mind, it's modern stuff with no "leads" but there is still alot of cool guitar playing going on, whether it be chords, rhythmic structure, melody lines or whatever*

Matchbook Romance- Stories and Alibis * GREAT ALBUM* lot's of cool stuff, nice hooks, cool guitar parts,

Thrice- The Artist in the Ambulance *AWESOME ALBUM* and the guitarist Tappei Taranishi was a classical player who had never used pick prior to starting this band. Some real cool stuff going on guitar wise with this band, and alot of good songwriting. They're kinda heavy, but I don't know how to describe them.

Taking Back Sunday- Tell All your friends * GREAT Song writing* This stuff is very simple stuff on guitar, but the song writing and vocal melodies (two vocalists) is very, very cool and catchy with out being poppy.

and for the hell of it, Check out *Story of the year- Page Avenue* Really commecial, but still cool band. Really cool songs with a nice blend of harmony, dynamics and hooks.

Later dude, hope I could have been a help in some way
Nik

****EDIT*****
I forgot to mention, I have an iced earth cd (something wicked this way comes) As well as a Blind Guardian (tales from the twilight world) that I'd be more then happy to give you if you'd like b/c I think they are two of the worst things I've ever heard (keep in mind I LOATHE power metal). Either way, one of my friends made me buy them, swearing that once i listened to the album in full, I'd appreciate it and grow to like it. Long Story, worst use of 30 bucks I've ever had. If you like any of that stuff, I'd be more then happy to give 'em to ya.

Taste is a funny thing, isn't it... ;-)

Dogman and Manic Moonlight are the only ones I don't care much for. But at least Dogman has SOME good tunes on it... All IMO, of course.
