Ibanez 90th Anniversary video

I was just watching this video (which is great by the way) and at the very end of the performance, when all three guys are all wanking on stage, one of them (I presume either Vai or Timmons) does this crazy sound effect, sounds like the bar being depressed and then raised with this crazy harmonic or something. Anyways, does anyone know if this was in fact a guitar sound, and if so, how do you do it?

Yep- if you look, it was Paul making that sound. He makes that sound often enough with an ADA Flanger that has the regen knob cranked.

Wow, I never would have guessed. But then again there's a very similar question on Paul's website, I guess he does it on one of his instructional videos too. Thanks for the help.

I've seen the DVD pop up on eBay every now and again... but most frequently you can find it on those file-sharing networks. Just search for something like "Vai Timmons" and you'll find it.

I had never seen or heard Andy Timmons prior to seeing this video, and he's freaking amazing, not to mention that he's walking around head banging and getting into it while playing all these impossible licks...it's crazy...

Yeah, I may have gotten mine from one of those file sharing things...

For those who have watch the video, did you realize that vai had to change his guitar because the high E string snapped when it's his turn to solo?

He sure don't look please when that happened.

Yea- there was a thread about this video a while ago... we all agreed Timmons was in great form that night.
It was awful timing when Vai's string broke though- right at the beginning of the solo... I have to say though, nice save! I've heard him improv worse with 6 fully functional strings . Something about Vai's tone was just terrible to me though... I'm not sure what was going on but it sounded very oversaturated and muddy throughout his performances.

Yeah I disliked his tone. But in the video, Vai is playing even while the broken string is visible, I don't understand...unless he has his trem blocked for depressing only, which it wasn't because he pulled up on it as well.

No... nothing's blocked... that's why I said, "Nice save!" The whole thing totally drops out of tune as soon as that string breaks.

You can tell he was just playing with his ears and feel... sliding around to the right notes and using a lot of whammy. I think Paul and Andy shoot eachother a smile during Steve's solo as if to say, "Nice save, Steve- you go, man!".

After having watched that part of the video again, I now see what you mean! That is pretty impressive, mad props to Steve on that!
