The band's name is Living Colour, and the song's title is "Cult of Personality".

They rocked back then... Anybody know what's up with their reunion?

Vernon Reid is amazing!! I remember the Hamer guitars he used to play in the early 90's. There was a really cool one with a graphic finish and a watch sunk into the top. I think it was all linked to the "Time's Up" album which came out around that time. His tone is also really cool. Heavy but also really tight and focussed. *

Living Colour were AMAZING live - Vernon Reid doubly so.....

Had this really cool yellow hamer, loads of crazy graphics over it and a big reflective neck inlay of *E=MC2.

They were fantastic players and really put on a show....last i heard, didn't Doug Wimbish (bass player) bog of and join the Stones live setup?

Pete

I saw Living Colour many times in their early days in small clubs. *They really rocked. * Vernon is a fantastic player; his strength I think is rhythm guitar and songwriting. * I never liked his solos that much -- too frantic and unfocused, though filled with energy. * * They occasionally used to cover Led Zep tunes in concert.

Darryl Jones is the guy who's with the Stones...I don't think Wimbish ever did anything with them. *

Living Colour DID do a very brief club tour that hit both coasts, and consisted of only 10 shows. *They're a great live band and I'd love to see them do a full-blown reunion tour...guess only time will tell!

This is old news, but nobody has posted it yet, and some of you might be interested:

New Living Colour album, "CollideOscope" will be out on Sanctuary records on Sept. 23rd worldwide, and on Oct. 7th in the USA. the lineup is the same as on "Stain" (Glover, Reid, Wimbish, Calhoun), the first single is a cover of AC/DC's "Back in Black", I can't wait...

I haven't listened to LC in awhile, but at the time Cult of Personality was popular (must've been 89 or so?), I remember Reid's solo on that song sounding like he was holding his arm away from the strings and just shaking his entire arm as fast as he could without too much care or finesse. I'm really not being critical, as I do like the solo, but it left me thinking "hell, I can do that!"

One of the things I've always found amazing about Yngwie's playing is that his alt picking is simply two fingers and a pick - no arm flailing about - not his whole hand, as you'll catch SV doing. That is some incredible control of your fingers. Again, not being critical as each style embraced by a capable person will sound well.

- Chris

I liked Cult of Personality and a few other LC songs from "Vivid" and "Time's Up" but never really got into them. Just found them a bit boring on record but I can imagine they are awesome to see live. Got "Stain" to see where they were at after a few years of hearing nothing from them but still found them a bit boring.
Vernon Reid's solo album "Mistaken Identity" though - wow! one of my favourite CD's

I caught them live when they were opening for the Stones on the Steel Wheels tour at Clemson, SC in '89 or so. In-freakin'-credible. Vernon Reid absolutely rips. He is probably the most underrated guitarists around.
