Instrumental band

Hello everyone, I wanted your opinion on something. I have organized a line up for my solo stuff (www.myspace.com/mattroberts) . I am sort of concerned about playing shows and stuff. Do you think it would be hard to market that sort of music? You don't see too many new bands doing that style of music these days.

Re: Instrumental band

ive been concidering starting one for a while, not got round to it yet but i think its on the cards. i think there is possibly a big hidden market for it, i mean look at this board. i went to see a band the other night with two amazing players and all the audience as diggin the guitar solos, especially the cover of summer song! the problem is i dont think alot of people realise they would like it, if that makes sense. i would say there would be alot of work getting the music out to your target audience, and supporting other bands would be the staple of gigs for a while until your on your feet, could be doable though.

i live in england so that may also alter my perception of things, but it cant hurt to give it ago, and if it goes well let me know. good luck

Re: Instrumental band

i agree that it would probably work, just a little rough to market it at first. a lot of people dig instrumental rock, they just don't know what/who is out there. maybe at the start, work in some standard rock covers, and then gradually phase them out of the set list.

Re: Instrumental band

I'm definitely going for it, but the tough call for me is just who to book shows with.

Re: Instrumental band

you shuld probably just take whatever you can get at first. sort of test the water to get an idea of where your audience is at. i would say other bands with good guitarists is a place to start, as their audiences will probaly dig the solos etc.
