Is rap music on its way out?

Hey everyone!

I've been knonw here and there to defend some hip hop/rap artists, b/c I certainly like more than just guitar music, and some of this stuff is alright. I was suprised to read this article, stating that that rap has suffered a sharp decline in sales as of late. Well, maybe I wasn't THAT suprised. Just too many damn negative messages coming out of the music.

Some of you might get a kick out of reading it.

Re: Is rap music on its way out?

I saw that on one of the news channels a few weeks back. I dont mind old rap, but everything now is so stupid, at least in the mainstream ( but I dont care enough to look for underground rap). I couldnt care less how many pairs of Air Force Ones Nelly has, or if he wants to rob a jewlery store and tell them to make him a grill.

Re: Is rap music on its way out?

I'm with Cid 100%. I still like the older stuff (mainly before 1992-ish) but I got completely tired of hip hop in about 1998 and stopped listening. It's a shame that it turned to complete BS with artists such as Puff Daddy, etc. I still have respect for the old-school. A lot of the old B-Boys I know (I'm still part of a large crew of emcees, producers, scratch DJ's, breakers and artists) are listing to rock music these days, even guys that have been into hip hop since the early/mid 80's.

I've NEVER been a rap fan so the following statement pretty much sums it up for me:

Who cares??

No offense Dave, but the sooner the better

Re: Is rap music on its way out?

none taken! I actually thought that this thread would put smiles on a few faces. That's why I posted it!

That...and the fact that I found the sales numbers the music industry is posting to be pretty interesting. i had no idea rap had taken such a dip in sales, given it feels like its practically all you see/hear on mtv.

MInd you, I don't think I've purchased a rap album in a few years.

I'd rather see crap rock go than rap, I'm rarely stuck someplace where I have to hear 50 cent, but I get stuck listening to Nickleback often enough that I;ve considered cleaning my ears with a screwdriver

I am never been able to appreciate RAP. They sound the same to me from one RAP song to another. They sound so monotonous. No melodies, no chorus and most importantly no LEAD GUITAR. Hopefully people will turn back to Rock music again for the better..like the 80s

Re: Is rap music on its way out?

I'm not at all surprised! While i can respect old school artists such as Elcid does, this new high life from crime life theme is just ignorant. The beats and melodies are also getting annoying. When you repeat Mr. Postman over and over in the song, needless to say i think you've ran out of ideas. I also think these people are kinda trying to live up the hype sometimes when their lives weren't actually as "gangster" as they say. Also i don't care about how many 100s you got and how big your rims are.

I also agree with the fact that crap rock should go also. With the common society still thinking it is uncool to have a guitar solo and cool to whine in your song, it is going downhill fast for us real players. Who knows what the future holds though.
