How dare Joe attempt to be creative without those necessities (or badges) of virtuosity. (besides it doesn't sound anything like my Husqvarna chainsaw at full throttle, it just sounds boring like a "regular" guitar)

Gotta love Joe Pass. Nice post, Jim lad.

I can't believe the goon who compared John Fruciante (sp) with Joe Pass. Man, some people...

I've actually just recently re-discovered Hendrix. There are some early live performances that are just great and all his studio work is wonderful. It's really caused me to look at the instrument a second time and try and pick out places where I'm really just pulling from my bag of tricks. Also I'm working on my vibrato and bending. I can do 3 1/2 step bends with 9s. I'd like to get that good with the guitars I have strung up with 10s. You can pull a lot out of the instrument if you just look at it from different angles. All of it takes a great deal of skill as well.

I just got back into shred and the like after leaving it behind many moons ago. I'm not sick of it yet but I know how you feel. I listen to everything though, from bluegrass to classical, classic rock to modern metal, oldies, ragtime, big band, you name it. I just love music for music's sake. Nothing get's old too fast when you mix it up.

My last band used to play that song (Room 335) in practice all the time, great tune! It has a very LA 70's vibe to it, like it got left of a Steely Dan record There's a great live Captain Fingers video out there as well that's worth watching.

You know I wonder just who will take the elements of several genre's and combine them for the next "new" direction? Something requiring a high skill level on their respective instruments and yet remain mainstream enough to catch on.

So would this qualify as "technical mastery"?? Guess not? (where's the speed?)

To play fluidly and accurately at high speeds demands only practice!

Hey Jim...... remember these amps Demeter TGA-3??? Got that Dumble vibe going, yeah!

Re: Is there anyone tired of all these virtuosity shows?

Thanks for posting that vid, jemplayer55, that is awesome!

Playing fast requires just as much practice as anything else, as is only a single aspect of some music. There's a wide range of tempos and dynamics at which one can play.

I used to only play fast, and now I'm going through the difficult task of learning how to sound good when playing slow. When playing slower, especially solo, there's less room for error, because any mistake you make will be painfully obvious.

The only 'virtuosity' vids I'm sick of are these people that play 5 billion notes a second on youtube.

Talk about *yawn*
