John 5 Clinic Review

Just had a chance to see John 5 at a Sweetwater. Usually these thing turn into a huge sales pitch. Thank you John for cutting the crap and playing a great show. His style and tasteful use of low distortion and killer picking was a pleasure to watch. I'm not a huge Manson fan or Zombie for that matter but he is so well rounded and can change roles to fit a wide range of styles. I can't believe someone that played with KD Lang jumped to David Lee and then play on the Grand Ole O and then Manson?. The whole show was played out of a Fender practice amp with a distortion pedal. He talked about selling his KISS collection for 75 grand to buy Teles and stints with Lita Ford. He dropped some names and played some James Gang and CCR blips when asked about riffs. Don't underestimate this guy listen with an open mind you will be surprised. 10 minutes about his Fender model and that was it. Played about 4 songs including a killer ramped up bluegrass tune and the song he played with Satch.

Fender occasionally sends people across here ..... I wonder .......

Had Requiem on in the car this morning. Not a bad album at all and some clever little twists.

Well it is suppose to be a guitar "clinic" and not a concert. Technically the clinic is SUPPOSE to be a big sales pitch on the gear since its the equipment manufacturer that sets up and pays for the clinic. Most clinicians dont end up pimping the gear though and spend 98% of the time pimping themselves.

In John 5's defense though, you cant really spend much more than 10 to 15 minutes talking about a guitar... its not like when I do a clinic for Digitech and have to cover everything that a RP1000, TimeBender Pedal, and VL3D pedal can do which can take an hour easily. I try to make it 50/50 for playing vrs explaining the gear. It seems to work out pretty well.
