JUDAS PRIEST cover band? -I was asked to help them out

One of my friends fell very ill this week he is hosptalized & is not in a good way, the doctors have not found what it is that is making my friend so ill, i got a call from my ill friends band members that are lost for a top gun guitar player at the moment because of this situation,

The band is a JUDAS PRIEST cover band & these guys have bookings- so i can't let my sick friend down, he is counting on me to fill his shoes in this band of his for a short time, i have told him any money that is made out of this i will set aside for him, i'm doing this to help him out & for no pay, So now I'm look into the playing styles of the guitarists of JUDAS PRIEST, so far so good & i have to learn a lot of the songs but i found i must use my other guitar's to match the tone these guys want, i can't use my Jem's Or UV& JS, so i'm going with 4 guitars- Jackson SL1, RR custom shop, Fender strat with EMGs & a 12 string IBZ to cover the sounds needed,

Anyone on Jemsite got any tips on JUDAS PRIEST's sound, music, amp's ect- I admit i Know stuff all bout JUDAS PRIEST & i must learn more fast!
can any bro help out with some info?

Cheers- Jake.

You got to be kidding me

KK Downing played mostly Gibson Vs and Hamers and same goes for Glernn Tipton. I think he is endorsed by Hamer too. In the early years they showed up with Strats, and i think on occasion i have seen some ESP's. I think main pickups are EMG's. The Hamer V played by Glenn Tipton had EMG's in it.

You can find some Tabs on the official website.

Hey Jake first of all I hope your friend gets well soon...
I hope you take my advice with a grain of salt but I think you should pass on this one mate and help the other members find someone who's really into
Judas Priest, giving you all the advice in the world won't help IMHO! you either know the stuff or you don't, the Priest stuff is something you must have in you
not only the music but the attitude and if this is a JP cover band fans usually spot someone who doesn't belong and I think that would happen to you mate.
Please don't think I'm negative but I definately would pass up on a gig that wasn't for me, in fact I just did that not so long ago, I was invited to play lead
in a somewhat established Metallica tribute band but I declined it because their music isn't up my alley anymore and I would refuse to play any of their new material besides it's very important to know ALL the material very well something I definately wasn't prepared for and apparently you are in the same boat, you don't seem know the band you will try to cover well so spare yourself the trouble
and as I said try to help them find another replacement. But if you wind up doing this gig I would recommend you to listen to 4 albums so that you can get what their sound and playing is like: Stained Class, Screaming for Vengance, Defenders of the faith and Pain Killer.
The axe of choice would be the Jackson do not use the Strat the sound would be too thin to play JP stuff.

I use my RG's with IBZ/Dim to play JP all the time and it sounds Killer through my Boogie.

Yes it's a real bumer when your put on the spot like this but I never really got into JUDAS PRIEST dude, i'm a Vai fan so I don't know that much when it comes to JUDAS PRIEST but i'm learning, So far I like the song Pain Killer & i got that one nailed!
but there's more song's that this band will perform & to make matter's wose i have to look like Glen Tipton! Dress up in the same type of getup with Stud's & Sh!t that he wares & act like him on stage & have the same hair do!???- this is how the band dose there biz & these guy's are as good as the real deal! - I have no say because i'm filling in for a sick friend, I think the guitar's i chose will be just fine for that Judas Priest sound, but now i got to watch all these DVD's to get that Glen Tipton act down & thank god this dude don't move around all that much-lol!

I still can't get over how high the singer can scream! - f*Ck! -lol! WTF dose he put down his pant's to get that high!? a clamp on his nut sack or some thing? - f*Ck!!!
thanx for that info, i will let you know how i go with it all, looks like it will be some fun anyway- I hope? - lol!

It will be no walk in the park but I'm a good guitar player that is why i got asked to play because these dude's know i play well & I wont let them down, - they had no one they could trust to fill this spot, it's only for a short time untill my friend gets back on his feet again, I think at the end of this i will have learnt some new things about performing live in a clone band , i will give it 110% that's the best i can do for a sick friend & i'm sure he would do the same for me.

Cheers- (Jake Tipton)
