Just Discovered Eric Clapton
I always knew
Eric Clapton
was a great guitar player, but I never really listened to his recordings or seen his live footages. Well, today at my
local music store
they were playing his DVD "live in Hyde Park", I stood there for 20 minutes just watching it. Its amazing. Eric Clapton can not only play the blues, his compositions and his voice is amazing as well. He has so much soul in his playing, and I love it, I can't believe it took me so long to realise this !

Re: Just Discovered Eric Clapton
Congratulations - say what you want about his sloppy playing, Clapton is still one of the original masters of electric blues/rock guitar, I grew up listening to him and he was one of my earliest guitar influences. I recommend you check out some of his earlier recordings with Cream and "Layla and assorted love songs" with Derek and the Dominoes.

Yeah Clapton is amazing; I've seen him twice right now. Be sure to check the "one more car one more rider" DVD.

Re: Just Discovered Eric Clapton
Oh yeah, as the old saying goes......Clapton is God! He is truly amazing in my opinion. And apart from Hendrix, I think he was the biggest icon in guitar! Its such a shame he is so understated, but thats how he likes it, keeping himself quiet. He never did like the whole "mad fans" thing. But some of the blues licks that guy has......truly amazing! All from a strat and a little combo!

Re: Just Discovered Eric Clapton
I started
playing guitar
because of crossroads. Clapton is amazing and could slaughter alot of technical players in a duel. Think about it. 30 notes a second and tapping followed by a riff written and played by God Himself. Get the Crossroads box set. Wow...

Re: Just Discovered Eric Clapton
I'm not a huge Clapton fan, but I thought his playing on the Howlin' wolf London Sessions (Clapton and the Stones rhythm section with Wolf and Hubert Sumlin) was excellent.
Of course, it doesn't hold a candle to Sumlin's work with Wolf, but still...
Give it a listen.

Re: Just Discovered Eric Clapton
Not really one of my favorites, but he has to be doing something right to have the career he had. Cream andDerek and thte Dominoes were awesome though, although I credit Duanne Allman for the latter. Just listen to the original Layla, then compare it to the geriatric Unplugged version.
