Killswitch Engage
Some days ago my son (15) asked me if i would visit a concert of Killswitch Engage with him and a friend. I agreed. I didn't know KE and i must say i was very impressed, and mainly the songs "The end of heartache", "Element of one", "The arms of sorrow" and some others are really good. Does anybody know what tuning these outstanding guitarists use, is it C-drop ?
I highly recommend to watch these guitarists live, it's a cool adventure.

Re: Killswitch Engage
Yup, most of their tuning is in low C.
KE are one of the most innovative metal bands to come out in a very long time. They were my favorite band until I played the CD so much that I got sick of it lol. Its about time they come out with a new CD anyways.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the highlight of the band: The singer. Howard Jones has fantastic tone and range.

Re: Killswitch Engage
Yes, the singer is killer, a garant of their success. I also don't like if there is only screaming. The preact was "As I Lay Dying" and there is too much screaming.

Re: Killswitch Engage
KsE is one of my favorites actual metal band.
Sounds like PanterA sometimes, so it's a good thing!

Re: Killswitch Engage
If you want to hear Pantera style stuff then the band you might want to check out is Throwdown, check the track "we will rise".

Re: Killswitch Engage
Killswitch are great.
I have been at their meet and greets around 3 times and all of the guys are great.
Last year I met up with Joel and his wife here in Houston and I had on my Steve Vai Passion and Warfare shirt.
Joel kinda freaked out and said he loved Vai and my shirt. So I gave it to him.
Sure enough that night here in Houston Joel was wearing the Steve Vai shirt. My son freaked out. The guys treated my son like gold and truly like their fans.

Re: Killswitch Engage
i enjoy these guys to an extent but i disagree with:
Quote:

they are talented and the singer has a good range (and they have a great Dio - Holy Diver cover) but I really dont see them doing anything innovative at all. Most of their songs have nearly identical song structures and are VERY predictable.
now dont get me wrong, ive been listening to these guys for about 8 years now so im not bashing them, but they are certainly not on my shortlist of innovative/influential metal bands in the past 10 years.

Re: Killswitch Engage
well i don't really think they're doing someting innovative.
just doing awesome good music, great voice, great guitar duets, great drums.
since STRYPER (1988' era) i don't dig 2 guitars on the same band, and KsE really blows with those nice riffs and that insane EMG-ish 'squeals'.
PS: my english was kinda strange today.

Re: Killswitch Engage
I got around to them two years ago and Machine Head at the same time (while looking for Pantera influenced bands).
Favorites songs:
- Self Revolution
- Fixation on the Darkness
- Life to Lifeless
- Breathe Life
- The End of Heartache
- Eye of the Storm
- Break the Silence
- Reject Yourself
- This Fire Burns
The rest is a little murky for my taste.
BTW, wikipedia states that a new album is coming in 2009.
FYI, the original singer (first two albums) was Jesse Leach which is now the singer for Seemless (a band with serious riffs and grooves). You should definitely check them out.

Re: Killswitch Engage
I really like those guys. I've been so turned off by "modern rock" for the most part that it's hard to realize that there are now bands out there that put a lot more effort into guitar playing....not just "dropped Z" riffs over and over and over and over.....
