King Diamond

Does any one listen to this band? I got into them from a recent Guitar Techniques Magazine style profile, and some of the riffs are very catchy indeed! I haven't heard riffs like this in a long time! So, I got some of their albums and I have to say that they are really quite good indeed, the guitar playing is superb and the overall playing is excellent.

However, it took quite along time to get into the vocals, the singer has about 4 different 'voices' and they are a little theatrical - sort of like opera singing sometimes.

Also, alot of their songs seem to have re-occouring themes. There is an album called 'Them' - which has some slamming riffs and solos - which is about a Grandmother who comes home from a psychiatric hospital and goes a little bit more crazy and starts addding drops of blood into cups of tea!

Anyhow - I dont know much at all about them, and I have never heard them mentioned before. So do you guys have anything to say about them? Album reccomendations?

Re: King Diamond

Mercyful Fate is King Diamond's band. King Diamond is a "solo" project band. I love the old Mercyful Fate stuff personally. Time is one of my favorite rock/metal records. Check out their older stuff. Melissa is great, Don't break the Oath is great. They've been cranking out concept albums for years.

I didn't care much for the King Diamond stuff compared to the old MF.

The guitarist Andy LaRocque (of Kind Diamond) is a true virtuoso and a favorite of mine.

Check out one of his solo's:

Re: King Diamond

I used to listen to King Diamond back in the 80s. I thought the singing was pretty cool.

Re: King Diamond

I've really been getting into this band. For some reason I can't stop thinking about the song Sleepless nights and The family ghost. Are the riffs that good?!?

Anyhow - I though I'd try and spread the word a little!

Re: King Diamond

i love the track "the night"- "find out if she really is, found out if he really is?" great solos, very weird sounding a nice vocal song to cover at the local battle cruiser, goes down great with the old folk!

Re: King Diamond

I think my buddy played that song "Egypt" on his stereo while standing next to an infant and the baby exploded from the nasality of the vocals .

Re: King Diamond

Oh, this band is sooo under-rated. I'm really into King Diamond and has been for many years. The combo of high-pitch vocals and the extremly heavy riffs just blows me away. And then Andy's solo's to top it off.
Also check out King's previous band, Mercyful Fate. The riff-meisters.

'Abigail' is such a great album! I've only a few CD's, though. Too bad, because I like KD quite a lot. 'House of God' album's 'Trees Have Eyes' is a killer song.

Re: King Diamond

If you like Andy LaRocque's work, check out Death's Individual Thought Patterns. Andy LaRocque and Chuck Schuldiner together = metal guitar bliss.

I've just finished learning the rhythm for Sleepless Nights and now it's time to tackle the solos, lucky me.

Rock on!

Re: King Diamond

'Little one' from Abigail II kicks in with an awesome riff as well as intro solo, check it out!

Does anyone have any King Diamond power tabs?
