King's X - what's their name?

Silly question, but is it pronounced "King's Ex," "King's Ten" or "King's Cross"? I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet but I bought Gretchen Goes To Nebraska yesterday after hearing about this band for years.

I've always thought King's Ex...At least that's what I've heard everyone else say it as.

It's King's "Ex". Jerry Gaskill's (the drummer) wife was my music theory teacher in high school. I got to jam with him when he came to visit one day.

I always said King's Ex as well, although King's Cross would have made sense as well. Great band!

Well, you had the right idea because "King's Cross" was their actual intended meaning. They were originally a Christian band, but didn't want to be one overtly so they figured "King's 'Ex'" would be more subtle.

Shortly after "Faith, Hope, Love" they became disillusioned with Christianity and dropped that theme from their music. The lead singer coming out of the closet had a lot to do with that.

I remember back in 1991 just about every major musician sited King's X as their favorite band, including Eddie Van Halen. "Faith, Hope, Love" is one of my most favored albums of all time.

Megadeth also sited them as a huge influence, as did Alice in Chains.
Gretchen is a great 1st album.
I'd venture into "King's X" self titled album, "Ear Candy", "Tape head" and Black Like Sunday as well. All good albums with great harmonies and music.

If they ever come to your town, I highly advise going to see them live, EXCELLENT band that is VERY under the mainstream radar, which could be good in a lot of ways.

I think he meant Gretchen is a good first album to get, not that it was the first King's X album.

Anyway, I like Tape Head!

I don't know, Dogman is good but as good as Gretchen? Gretchen is where they really found their sound. And 'Over My Head' and 'The Burning Down' are on Gretchen.
Seriously though, the new record, "Ogre Tones", is their best album of the last 10 years. It's a great album and all X fans should get it.

Dogman is excellent album. But I agree with Jim that Gretchen is better.

I don't have newest album "Orge Tones" yet. I need to get that one still. I am ashamed of myself for not having it yet.

Re: King's X - what's their name?

I always said "Kings eX" but I've heard others suggest that it's "Kings Cross". Whatever, I like that band. I have none of their stuff but I always liked what I heard.
