Re: lessons with well-known guitarists/musicians
I studied with Wayne Krantz on and off for 5 years. I also took a few lessons from
MIke Stern
, and a couple from his wife Leni.
Mike was too advanced for me, Leni was cool for the couple i took, but Wayne is the man! He will listen to you play and instinctively know the best things to give you to work on- of course it also depends on what you want to learn.

Re: lessons with well-known guitarists/musicians
I'm considering taking lessons from a well accomplished chapmanstick player. He's a dutch guy named "Ron Baggerman". He also teaches guitar. My doubt is in the fact that I should be able to teach myself. All the information is on the internet somewhere, both technical and musical.
I know lessons from accomplished player can give you a "new perspective". But how has this translated to you in a practical matter ?

This is very cool, Wayne is a great player and I am sure he's a good teacher too. I am sort of intrigued by his new guitar book acually.

THe book is excellent, but VERY different from your average "guitar method" book. There are no licks, tricks, or even any musical notation. What the book is about is approaching the guitar (and improvising) in a different way. Some people will think it's crap, but it's definitely a "the more you put into it, the more you will get out of it" type of thing.
And guys who are into "composing" their solos a la Vai would probably do better with something else.

Thanks, that's the impression I got. Maybe I will pick it up someday - should get some of his CDs first though...

Greenwich Mean is a truly remarkable cd. my school, university of north texas, gets big name musicians in all the time to give clinics and everything and video tape them all. wayne's video is just insane, hes a sick player for sure.

I completely agree about Greenwhich Mean- the fact that the music was improvised still astounds me, and there is a sense of urgency, of living breathing creativity that flows through that album that i've rarely heard in over 30 years of listening to records.

Re: lessons with well-known guitarists/musicians
Dave Fiuczynski from Screaming Headless Torsos and Berklee gives lessons in NYC and MA; I took one two years ago or so. Mostly, it was me asking questions. A few good ideas and a lot of encouragement from him. He's a really nice guy.
