Lynch / Malmsteen show last night - Baltimore
Went to the Lynch/Malmsteen show last night at the Thunderdome in Baltimore, MD. Great stuff!
Lynch had a clinic at Bill's Music at about 3:00 yesterday afternoon. He jammed to some backing tracks (mostly from the Lynch/Pilson CD, I think), answered some questions, then signed autographs. It was the first time I'd seen him in person since the old Dokken days. It was cool to actually get to meet him this time around.
The show at Thunderdome started with an opening band (didn't catch the name of the opener) who played covers. Then Lynch came out with his band (Jeff marten on drums, Kelly Keeling on vocals, and Marten Andersson on bass) and put on a great show. Lynch looked like he was having a great time. The mix sucked, but the band did a good show.
Ingwie came out next, and did his usual stuff. Man, that guy can play. He was very showy, throwing and spinning his guitar around, all the time not missing a note. Now, don't misunderstand here, but it wore me out watching him. Like sensory overload. It was just nothing but blinding speed, nonstop. I actually got bored after a while - not because it wasn't good, it was just SO repetative. He did one solo on a nylon-stringed acoustic that was awesome, and a little different, but that was about it for variety. Again, a bad sound mix, but the band did an awesome job.
All in all, a great show. If you get a chance to catch this lineup, I'd recommend you check it out.
