Malaysia's perception of great guitarists :roll:
My friend showed me an old article on Malaysia's Top 100 guitarists. I won't bore you with all of them, so I'll just mention a few:
1. Tony Iommi (really?)
2. Kirk Hammet (no surprise here
)
5.
Eddie Van Halen
(he deserved this and I don't care what you say!
)
22. Head and Munky (what the ****?)
23.
John Petrucci
53. Steve Vai (again, what the ****?)
77. Joe Satriani (why is he at this number
)
Any comments? I for one couldn't think that it can be any more fair
.

Yup, except this is in Malaysia. As for Jimi, he's somewhere in the top 10. Quite frankly, I'm quite surprised. I thought that Hammet was going to be number 1!

Sorry, but I didn't know which magazine it was, 'cause it was my friend's (he photocopied the pages). It was definitely a Malay magazine. I can remember it said this though:
Ini untuk segala headbangers. Bang your heads! Bang! Bang!
Or something like that.

How can you say that? Especially when we had our 'Merdeka' earlier this month!
No, Malaysians aren't screwed up. There are a lot of great musicians in our country, but alas, they're not nationally recognised. The whole Hammett and Slash group are there because of one thing. They're macho. Luckily Vai is known for his playing, not because he's macho (he's definitely far from it). This happens in other countries as well. Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, etc. The same thing usually happens in Europe, except its
Death Metal
over there
