Marty Friedmans Loudspeaker

Anybody have this album? Is it any good? It hasn't come out in the US yet and I don't think it ever will so I figured I'd ask around and see what people thought of it before I ordered it. I was a big fan of Music For Speeding even though some folks didn't like the J-Pop stuff I thought it was cool.

I don't have it but I do have Music for Speeding, and I love it!! And also dig japanese music, actually that's all I listen to these days. I will have to order Loudspeaker soon enough. Marty is one cool mofo.

I do have it and love it. I bought it as an import and have had a few months now. I do not like it as much as Scenes since it is totally different, but his composing ability still astounds me. The music still moves me.

Re: Marty Friedmans Loudspeaker

i've got Loudspeaker

its pretty good album overall, few interesting tracks, where he combines some J-Rock like melody and traditional Japanese tone into Megadeth like riffs..its all up to taste, some people like it, some people dont.

You can check out Elixir on youtube.

Re: Marty Friedmans Loudspeaker

Yep, sugizo_esp hit the nail on the head. I hated the samples i heard for 'Music for Speeding,' so I skipped that one. But it's very enjoyable, even if it's not quite Dragon's Kiss.

It's interesting because he'll start most of the songs off with a punk or 90's grunge sounding riff and then put some incredibly catchy (a little cheesy, but whatcha gonna do?) lead over it that boggles the mind because it's some weird exotic scale, but it's still catchy! (talk about a run-on sentence!)

Re: Marty Friedmans Loudspeaker

It came out in US on July 3rd... I preordered it from japan (released June 28th) and got around July 1st in canada...

Amazing album, I spent the past 4 months trying to learn all the songs on it by ear, so I listened to it over acouple thousand times so far... But its by far the best 2006 release... Buy it and you wont regret it.

His best solo album BTW... Even better than Scenes!

Well,I consider myself a HUGE Marty Friedman fan and he is probably my fav. guitar player...BUT I find his latest album quite dissapointing.
It looks like all that Japanese-pop-fancy TV sh't got up with his writing and his playing.
Personally,I really dislike Japanese pop and I hate that modern pop flavour to it.
I wouldn't react at all neither I would write anything If I didn't see you mentioned "Scenes" and actually put it behind this album.
To me,Scenes is 10000 billion times better album than Loudspeaker.
It'will be really difficult for Marty to match that atmosphere and moments that he caught on tape recording "Scenes",ever again.
Scenes was about lot of emotions and such a great melancholic atmosphere.
I don't seem to get nothing of that with this album.
Loudspeaker is also very sterile and too digital, production wise.
Guitars are plastic and distortions seem like they're made by Boss GT unit...
I'm not saying that he didn't trow few interesting solos and intricate exotic flavour on this album, but that's very little compared with his earlier records...
Also I really think he is getting little brainwashed by all that Japanese celebrity TV thing...it's just not that same vibe anymore...
I can just feel it.It gets a little...soulless...so to speak.

God I hope he will get back to his senses...(to his Realm of senses )

To conclude:

I like his earlier works a much much more than Loudspeaker stuff...

Re: Marty Friedmans Loudspeaker

I think it's pretty good. I haven't listened to it too much since I've had it though. A few songs are a bit heavier than what he's done in the past. It's nothing to really go crazy over.

I'm not a huge fan of his tone either, it sounds too processed. Pretty good album though, but I like 'Music For Speeding' better.

Re: Marty Friedmans Loudspeaker

well Jeff thats where I think you are more of a Megadeth fan, and less of a Marty fan... Marty is all about the different styles, he can do it all, and his "j-pop" is some of his best work..

I would consider myself at least top 5 biggest Marty fan in Canada (least eastern canada) I have all his cds/vhs/dvds, A Jackson Kelly and a SZ520, his CD with Aikawa Nanase (R.U.OK) and all megadeth stuff, and downloaded most of his Hebimeta-san shows.. And I just cant get enough of him.. ALL his stuff is great,

But Loudspeaker takes it to the next level, Because he still has great "scene-esqe" songs like Devil take tomorrow and Coloreas mi vida, Heavy songs like Dragons kiss (Elixir/Stigmata addiction) and MFS's technoish/groove songs like Paradise express.. Its like he took the best parts of all his old CDs and added them together to make a mega-CD.. Anyone should see how advanced this cd is compared to his old stuff.

I wont even get started on that "this cd is too digital" comment.. Thats retarded.. This album is the best produced/sounding album I ever heard.. I dunno what you hear, maybe your copy is damaged or something.. I bet if you guys didnt know he used a GT, you would be going "OMG HES GOT THE BEST TONE EVER" but since you all think Tube amps are the end-all thing, you bash him. Its a sad world we live in when tube elitists cant handle the fact that a $200 pedal sounds better than their $7000 amp

To say hes brainwashed by japanese TV and hes "souless"... Thats the most ridiculous thing I ever heard in my life.. This CD screams emotion, It has more emotion than Scenes and Introduction IMO, just listen to Devil Take Tomorrow.. or even his heavier songs scream emotion like no one else in this world can do..

All in all, Anyone whos open to new genres of music and not stuck in the 80s hair metal stage, will absolutely love Loudspeaker.. Its a breathe of fresh air to the **** world of music us westerners live in.

Re: Marty Friedmans Loudspeaker

Hey man!!!
Watch your manners!!!
It's very lame and very poor to call other people and their opinions - retarted when you don't have arguments that are good enough to debate.
I can call you stupid and retarded right away, but that just isn't my way so you won't be seeing that scenario, dude!
Calling yourself the biggest top 5 marty friedman fan in wherever and saying about all those things that you posess says enough about your attitude.
Needless to comment.
That doesn't make you superior neither your opinion is more valid than mine or anyone's else.
Maybe you really have all of that, but that's not how I measure someones dedication,at least not in my book.
His tone is very bad,and I instantly disliked it.
Don't call me a tube elitist cause I'm not a tube elitist.
I play on a relatively cheap tube amp and that's where the story ends.
I'm not bashing him,I'm just making my observations on album's production.
Production is too modern, sterile and really takes a lot from "spirit".
I guess you just can't get over the fact that someone prefers Scenes and all his earlier works over this one.
And you're talking all that bull about "musical openess" and using all that fancy phrases.
I just have that impression and that's it.
Get over it,dude and don't take this too seriously and personal.

I'll repeat again,I am HUGE marty fan...probably not ***S U C H A B I G *** fan as Your Majesty is and claims to be,and I really have this opinion based on my long-time following throughout his career.

Get civilized and stop that masturbation attitude over new album...

Peace,

Jeff

Re: Marty Friedmans Loudspeaker

I don't exactly love the tone in his new stuff, but the music and melodies are soo good and catchy that I don't really mind the tone at all...I kinda forget that part and just enjoy the tunes :-)

But you can tell that he obviously loves living in Japan, and it's music and its culture. Japan really is his main audience now; and his music does reflect that. It's bound to alienate some of his older fanbase for sure, it's understandable.

By being the only one who said about brainwashing...I have to say:

Are you blind or something?

Why do you have a need to imputate something that I didn't said?
Who said anything about japanese culture?
I for sure,didn't.
As a matter of fact,I find japanese culture very interesting and very exotic.
I was talking about JAPANESE TV stuff that he is going on with in his life.
He is a japanese TV celebrity up there.
And yes,I think it reflected on him, musically.
Personally,I don't like it...and if you do that's where the story ends.

P.S.
Don't tread on me as if you know me.
I' m not really an 80-ties guy neither I am stuck in time.

Get off my back,

Jeff
