Michael Angelo
I just downloaded a Michael Angelo video and I thought it was really cheesy. The backing music was some ridiculous
chord progression
with a snare drum that sounded like someone hitting a trash can lid with a stick. I always defend people like Steve Vai and
Paul Gilbert
etc., but this kind of "shred" guitar is just silly to me. Why can't this guy write a song? It's not just Michael Angelo either. I've seen so many videos of these "great players" who just regurgitate Yngwie licks and play them a little faster with absolutely no song structure or whatever and it's pretty funny, especially their hair. I'm ranting but someone holla at me about this.

Dude, you saw only one video, go check out his albums before you bury this guy. He deserves a lot of respect to me.

Agreed. His early stuff was more showy than his more recent stuff. The flare is still there, but he has progressed as a composer over the years, IMHO.

I don't think I want to check out any more of his stuff, honestly. I would assume that this guy hasn't written anything that I would find interesting. I've seen and heard quite a few things from this guy and others like him, and it's all the same nonsense. I thought the same thing when I bought the instructional video Shred isn't Dead or whatever. Terry Syrek or whatever with the long hair comb-over. Big deal if you learned some Yngwie licks and can play them fast and in key, go write the Rain Song, or War Pigs, or All is Fair in Love, or Little Wing or..... alright you get the point.

You're being very narrow-minded about this.
If you check out the album "Lucid Intervals And Moments Of Clarity" you'll find that it's full of well thought out and almost catchy songs combined with great technique.

I have his instructional vid and Nitro's first CD. The guy is hiarious. You have to get the humor in it if you ask me. To me it is the musical equivelent of a cartoon. It's just fun(ny).

devoting god knows how many hours of your life to pristine technique only to be called the musical equivalent of a cartoon must be painful
