Re: Mindcrime II is out... thoughts?

I only listened to the samples of each song. But...not impressed. Not that I wanted it to sound exactly like mindcrime. I just wanted it to sound good.

Queensryche continues thier downward spiral. Maybe they can tour with Metallica. They can call it "The bands that used to be good Tour".

Should have been titled "Promised Land II", the writing, production, and music all sound like that era. The only thing it has in common with O:M is the character names.

Re: Mindcrime II is out... thoughts?

I'm a huge QR fan, Mindcrime was incredible, especially seeing it live, I also really liked Rage, Promised Land, and The Warning. Empire was really good too, some of it was a little too commercial to me, but it still sounded like QR. They started losing me with Q2K and Tribe. I did pick up MCII because the first one was one of my favorite discs of all time, okay it started out as a cassette, got wore out, then CDs came along. It's okay, I've only listened to it a couple of times so far, maybe it will grow on me but I think something is missing. That something is Chris DeGarmo, QR is an incredible band, but Chris was that extra songwriting "X-factor" (he wasn't around for Q2K and contributed just a little for Tribe). He also had incredible tone and vibrato. The Live Evolution discs were okay, they had alot of my favorite songs, but Chris wasn't playing on them and you could tell, even playing the songs live they were missing something, especially compared to Livecrime that he does play on live (not to mention seeing the tours with and without him).

I know, he decided to leave and there's not much anyone can do, but I don't think QR can be the same band without him. Still better than most out there today, but a notch down from the original...

My $0.02 rant,
Roger

Chris DeGarmo....losing Chris was the beginning of the end. I used to like QR alot.

But... I wouldn't even have known they had a new CD out, if it weren't for this post. Kinda wish I never saw it.

The idea of doing a OMII so long after the first OM. Was a bad move in the first place.

Re: Mindcrime II is out... thoughts?

I couldn't wait to get my hands on the new album. I listen to it a couple time and was really disappointed. Geoff sounds great after all this time but this is not the same QR or a "matured" version of them. Most of the songs seem forced and diluted at best. While I'm adding my 2 pennies, the album art is horrible! Ill stick to the old albums, atleast they had balls!

PS anyone want to buy a slightly used Queensryche CD? hahaha

Re: Mindcrime II is out... thoughts?

Yeah, this pretty much sucks. I never thought DeGarmo was the greatest player, but his songwriting added a LOT to the mix back in the day. That's kinda misleading too, since the "Hear" album was mostly him and it was the first step down their road to suckage (IMO).

I still have lots of stuff to enjoy, though. All the old albums (EP through Promised Land), LiveCrime, Live Evolution (Art of Live is trash; avoid at all costs).

Im avoiding O:M 2 as not to taint my love for the original.

I saw QR with Dream Theater in 2003 and just plain didnt enjoy anything that played except for the stuff from O:M.

It hasn't tainted anything for me. I just ignore it.

I actually liked that show, and thought Tate & Co. were in fine form. I wasn't into the later stuff, but IIRC they didn't play too much of that.
