Re: Most Embarrasing, Stupid, Loser Song You've Ever Heard

Anything by U2, ACDC, metalcore/ grindcore/ nu metal bands...

and I hate Van Hagar. Not only does he have the ugliest hair ever but he also has an annoying voice and turned one of the best power rock bands ever into synth pop. Way to go.

And just about everything that could be considered "current mainstream music"

I love these threads. One person's trash is another's treasure. So, so ironic to hear folks say that music is bad simply because they don't like it.

My answer to the original question is Milli Vanilli. Even if you don't like Kanye, at least it really is him rapping.

Re: Most Embarrasing, Stupid, Loser Song You've Ever Heard

I hate to say this but I really think some people need to give somewhat legitimate reasons why they don't like certain songs or bands. Now a lot of these choices aren't what I'd pay to listen to, but I feel that some people here consider 'loser' songs not guitar oriented songs. Guitar isn't for everyone. My girlfriend is a singer. Celine Dion IMO is a very talented singer. And I happen to find that Bryan Adams Everything I Do guitar solo to be suitabe for the song. Maybe there's certain pieces of these songs that is not well composed or is it just ignorance of another one's type of artistic expression?

You have a good point. It's easy to take pot shots at someone who makes more money every week than most of us make in a year, just because we don't like some or even all of their catalogue.

That said, I've always thought that the United States National Anthem ("The Star Spangled Banner") was, musically speaking, utter nonsense. It has no recognizable time signature, it's melodically overwrought, and utterly clumsy with its interpolation of musical ideas. And then there's the lyrics...I don't mean this in an unpatriotic way, mind you...I'm just commenting on the value of the piece itself.

As for popular/modern music, even things that are widely considered to be "bad songs" (e.g. Kelis' "My Milkshake") have musical value, beyond what we, as individual listeners, "like" or "dislike". I'm not saying that I'm more musically in touch than anyone else, but I hear some of these songs and think, "hey, that's got a nice melody", or "hey, that's got a kick-a** groove".

Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuut...there's some stuff that's just pure poop on a stick, no two ways about it.

Whomever said "Sweet Child o' Mine" was absolutely dead-on correct. Most ridiculous, overwrought, repetitive, obnoxious, sloppy "metal" song to ever hit the airwaves. Also, "November Rain". And this coming from an on-again-off-again Slash fan.

Re: Most Embarrasing, Stupid, Loser Song You've Ever Heard

C'mon people.......surely this was just supposed to be a light-hearted thread about the music that drives us nuts

And besides..........y'all can't expect us to actually indulge in extra listens to these songs just to exactly analyse why we hate them so much!!!! We'd have to book ourselves into the nearest lunatic asylum after a while

We are perfectly within our right to say "It's poop" and move on

not that i'm necessarily defending the piece, but it's 3/4. it does have a somewhat "unconventional" meter and begins on the 3 count (which is sorta weird), but if you count along to the piece the 3/4 time is pretty easily recognized. the 1st F in the first melodic phrase (c a F a c f.. a g f a b c etc.) is the 1 and from there it's pretty normal waltz time.
