As for popular/modern music, even things that are widely considered to be "bad songs" (e.g. Kelis' "My Milkshake") have musical value, beyond what we, as individual listeners, "like" or "dislike". I'm not saying that I'm more musically in touch than anyone else, but I hear some of these songs and think, "hey, that's got a nice melody", or "hey, that's got a kick-a** groove".

It's not that I'm a musical snob. I just don't really like that Rihanna song that much, because of it's subject matter.

You want light hearted? A very old former friend of mine once absolutely INSISTED that we listen to the entire "Escape" album by Journey over and over again during a road trip to NYC many moons ago. The catch was that he had run the album through a processor and sped it up to approximately 2x normal speed and then copied it back to cassette. The first two or three times through, it was absolutely hysterical, not to mention somewhat mesmerizing. About ten miles north of the Clara Barton Memorial Service Plaza, though, things started getting weird. I'm tellin' you, it was like something out of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

...anyway...now I can't stomach anything from that album. Does that make me a bad person?

I found this version of that song on YT, by chance. It's very cool to hear that song with just a guitar and a (very charming) singer.

I sometimes watch parts of movies at twice the speed. It's hilarious!
