tony macalpine and (i know im gonna catch hell for this one) phil collen. *collen never really impresses me on the albums, but live he really shows out every now and again, and he can smoke -- he just usually does not.

How about Steve Vai. From what I've heard, he's pretty good. Plays a funny guitar too. What's that all about?

I love Jake E Lee. He's got soul. His solo album is well worth listening to.
There's a chap in England called Larry Miller-bluesy rock in thr Rory Gallagher tradition (Sadly missed). Larry is ahn awesome showman. Go and see him if you get chance-you'll leave the show with a smile on your face.
Ralph Macchio-he whipped Steve vai's ass in a live guitar contest I once saw (no kidding).
For great songs and cool rhythm I like Machine Head.

Dave Murray (maiden) (picked over Adrian Smith 'cause he's the only original 'cept Steve Harris, not to take anything away from Smith)

Over the decade's he has come up with some of the most unforgettable riffs/licks but don't get the credit as Maiden are a whole outfit and not geared to a particluar talent, which is a good thing.

Not a speed freak, but that doesn't matter at all!
As my first "real" guitar influence he's stayed with me all these years.

Quality, not quantity

Steve

P.S. For anyone who hasn't seen Maiden live, the next opportunity you get TAKE IT!, it's an amazing experience, I was priveleged to see them many times in their 80's hay day and my visits to Donnington still live with me.

Jerry Cantrel - plays probably as good as a Vai-ish person when it comes to odd times... but he can GROOVE

Johnny Marr - I just like to bring that name up now and then. *He is good though.

Jack Grassel - Jazz wiz from Milwaukee. *

Billy Duffy - Did a lot of simple stuff, just did it better than the rest.

Paul Gilbert - I just want people to realize he did more than guitar on "To Be With You."

Shawn Lane

Darren Householder - where is he now?!

Clive Carroll - amazing fingerstyle technique and a personal friend (no connection in those two comments!! )

Vinnie Moore - didn't really like first couple of albums, but his newest one (the live one) is really cool.

Dweezil Zappa - Waaaaaaaaay under rated

Nuno Bettencourt - rhythm playing so tight you could shove a lump of coal up it's a** and it'd come out a diamond in no time!
