New Allan Holdsworth Interview

http://www.innerviews.org/inner/holdsworth2.html

Nice to finally find out what happened to the Planet X material. I can't believe he came back from the pub and erased it!

Do you read or write conventional music?

Re: New Allan Holdsworth Interview

Allan has his own unique ways, he never approached theory by the conventional ways, he has his own system, and it doesn't surprise me that he doesn't read conventional music. In theory threads on here I've talked about Allan's approach and his system of working, and how it isn't necessary to absorb tons of theory. Stuffing your brain with information doesn't necessarily make you a better player, and in my opinion Allan is the best player, right up there with Shawn Lane.

Re: New Allan Holdsworth Interview

Thanks for posting the link, always interesting to read an interview with such an amazing player.

When I was in college studying music the guitar teacher there was always kinda amused when I said I was a huge fan of Allan Holdsworth because back in the late 60's and 70's he used to see Allan all the time in guitar shops in his area trying out gear or just jamming and playing for small local groups and still to this day thinks of him as "just a local lad". Apparently he got the sack from a fair few groups for going off on Holdsworth-esque tangents/solos in songs that just weren't suitable for them at all
