New Dokken

I just heard a few new Dokken tunes that are on an album to be released in a few weeks. Just curious to see what you all think.
I kind of like Don't bring me down.

Dont bring me down

I like pretty much everything except the vocals. Dokken would have been a great instrumental band, imho. Guitar sounds killer on both tracks.

I think they're decent tracks. They did more for me the first time hearing them than the new VH. Still, the songs aren't as good as the old days with the original lineup.

Speaking of which, have you seen the DVD from Japan. It was OK. Kind of sad, the crowd wasn't really into it. It was kind of a last gasp at what they once had.

I bought Erase the Slate in 2000 and thought it was awesome. It's the one with Reb Beach on guitars and I think that one rocks!

Without George Lynch's riffing there are few redeeming qualities. The weakness of Don Dokken's songwriting really shines through on these tracks. Why can't the guy come up with anything else to write about in 20 years than failed relationships?

The baritone intro on "Escape" is kinda cool, but the rest of it is pretty dull and mediocre.

Yea, that intro on "Escape" is really sweet. But yea, that's about all that interested me. "Don't Bring Me Down" sounded too thin to me.

Actually, now that I'm listening to more of the song, I kinda like "Escape"

As much as I've always been a Dokken fan, it's been said in this thread.

Don brings the whole band down. I don't like his voice, I don't like his songwriting, and I don't like his lyrics. I loved 'em when I was about 15, but 3 listens through this album (I have the whole thing) and it sounds a ton just like every other forgettable Dokken tune stuffed in as filler on decent albums (like BFTA).

Unfortunately for this album, there aren't any diamonds in the rough. :\

Anyone other than me buy the DVD?

Don rottening-up The End by the doors is just laughable.

I used to be, well, guess I still am, a huge Dokken fan. However, this album is uninspiring. I don't think it's just Lynch being gone - Don's had some great guitar players - the songs are just weak. NOTHING stands out. Just kind of a yawner.

I also wish Jeff Pilson would find his own vocal style, instead of falling into the Dokken rut. I thought Lynch/Pilson was an awesome CD, but there were a lot of similarities between not only his vocal style, but the way the vocals were mixed when compared to Don Dokken's stuff. Even the War and Peace CD shows vocal simialrities.

Don't get me wrong, I'll buy all of it (a blind follower, I guess). I'm just waiting for something to really stand out.

I've been a long-time Dokken fan, but I think I'll pass on this one. Dysfunctional was the last decent album they made, and the only thing that saved that one was Lynch. They pretty much dried up after that one. Yea, I like anything that Reb does, but the songwriting on Erase the Slate was almost bad enough to eclipse Reb's playing.

And with THAT being said, when's the new Lynch Mob stuff coming out?

Nothing unusual at all about that, the typical rock cliche.

As far as the original lineup is concerned, whatever happens, better not get George too excited or those big veins in his neck might explode LOL!! His stint as an apparent amateur body builder hasn't done anything to inspire his musical career, although the guy can play for sure.........

WOW! I really like John Levin's playing - very tasteful. That guy has feel for days. I'll pick this disk up for the guitar playing alone.
