Re: New Metallica album - sounds promising

I've been actively listening to Metallica since, let's see...about 1982, and ever since Kirk joined the band, I've still dug the band as a whole, but frankly, Kirk's playing is pretty sloppy. That's not inherently a bad thing...he DOES have a pretty good sense of melody, timing, and tastefulness, and his lead style works in the context of the music, but if you ever listen to him...I mean REALLY listen to him, it seriously sounds like he's about a quarter-step out of tune with the rest of the band. The guy just doesn't clean vibrato to save his life...and since he's always vibrato-ing, it sounds like he's just playing slightly out of tune. Go listen to just about any Metallica song (particularly post-"Justice")...it's gotten worse over time.
Still, I'm going to get the new album when it comes out...I've heard that it's supposed to be very much a throwback to their roots...very Black Sabbath/Misfits/Judas Priest/Motorhead inspired. Could be exciting.

I'm old school, so I'd contend that Metallica just hasn't been the same since Cliffy died. *sniffle*

Not gonna buy it that's for sure. Seriously once you actually really delve into metal anything post-Justice just sounds pedestrian. IMVHO of course.

I saw the snippets and such..although it's an improvement, I won't be buying the album.
