Nine Year Old Plays "Frenzy" by Racer X

youtube.com/watch?v=ok3EjsCmIu0

What gives with this kid? I'm sure there has to be a catch otherwise I'm absolutely convinced that this kid is the next Jason Becker/Randy Rhoads. That is absolutely phenomenal and clean shredding for his age. I'm ten years older than him and can't nearly play "Frenzy" that clean!

I hope this thread won't make too many people feel bad about their guitar skills. :P

Well he's much better than me. I hope he has a choice in what he pursues and I hope he doesn't get arrogant.

No offense man but if you think being able to shred a Gilbert tune cleanly at the age of 9 or 10 means that this kid is "the next Randy Rhoads", then I dont know what to say to ya. He's got great technical skills but all that is really just a matter of putting in a lot of practice time. Before I go off calling anyone a "virtuoso" as the video does, or saying that I'm "conivinced he is the next Randy Rhoads", I'd like to see some originals, something he's written. Cuz Rhoads didnt get to the level of admiration he got to by covering songs .

Yeah I agree, Virtuoso in todays world doesn't have the same meaning it did 20 or 30 years ago.

In todays world kids have access to better quality instruments at a younger age, due to higher incomes, and instant access to videos of gilbert etc... on youtube, and downloading of Tab etc...

When I was learning the guitar, I had to wait till the latest Guitar School came out with some tab, and I learnt like that. I also read in those magazines that I was considered lucky back then to have tabs in Magazines, cause before then you just didnt have it.

So being able to create music like gilbert, vai and satriani did back in the early 80's was a much bigger feat then in todays world.

Not to mention, that in my opinion, humans are evolving, growing taller, stronger, smarter and quicker. So its no biggy that this kid can reproduce gilbert. Yes its amazing to see all the hard work he has put in, and I hope he gets what he wants out of the effort he put in, but still its not like he levitated.

I was able to play Beethovens fur elise, note for note on the piano at age 7, and Eugenes trick bag age 14. I Dont consider myself a virtuoso, because all it takes is contant practise, nothing more and nothing less.

I firmly believe any human can play an instrument, they just need to practise alot....

At first I was blown away, but then I realised...

There are kids out there with that level of technical proficiency on other instruments, namely piano and violin. Still, hats off to the guy. The dedication and commitment he's shown to get to that level puts 99%+ of guitarists to shame.

I don't know, at least from a technical standpoint, I've never seen a kid who could do that at that age, except Shawn Lane.

Point taken. His technical proficiency at that age is still pretty amazing and something to be reckoned with. I'd probably retract my statement about him being like Randy and Jason; I don't know what kind of a composer this kid would be but I don't see him composing anything like "Perpetual Burn" at 16.

These threads always remind me of "Parrot recites Declaration of Independence" or "Dog says 'I Love You' " or something. Interesting but meaningless. Rote memorization isn't really noteworthy, however fleetingly fascinating.

Jeez thats pretty harsh the kid is 11 years old with incredible skill, and last time I checked the definition of a Virtuoso was:

"a highly accomplished musician whose technical accomplishments were so pronounced as to dazzle the public"
