not sure where to put this, but an important announcement i'm very happy about...

So I received word today that I've gotten my very first endorsement deal. I (proudly and officially) am now a D'addario Strings artist!

I apologize if this doesn't interest anyone, but I love the knuckleheads over here at Jemsite and needed to gush to somebody.

Congrats!

Out of interest, how do you go about getting an endorsement deal? Is it just a case of hassling the hell out of a company or do they come to you?

haha marky congrats, I have to say I think im going to be just like you when I am your age after reading your myspace blog posts.

I am only 23 but have been going to shows since I was about 14 and am influenced by a ton of the bands you listed (minor threat, integrity etc). However i do play music that gets classified as "metalcore"/"hardcore" etc but its mainly just because those are the buzzwords for describing metal that is close to metal these days and its the crowd you get pushed towards. Although I do have to say there are several very good creative bands under this umbrella..hidden between the hundreds of super generic and boring bands.

Ill let you know when we get stuff from our new album recorded (probably not until late this year) because I think you might enjoy it

It really does depend on circumstances; these days most companies aren't chasing anybody down as they don't have to go to the boards to fill seats on the endorsement lists. The way it tends to work is once you're in a band that's touring or at very least very visible within the industry you send a fairly standard press-kit (this usually consists of a bio sheet, a touring schedule, recorded music, and occasionally video footage of a live performance) to a company and they evaluate your submission. As it really only serves a company to have endorsing artists that will help them to sell product, almost invariably your visibility and performance schedule is what seals the deal.

My deal is just for discounted strings, I get them for VERY cheap which is just fine by me. I'm restringing at least 2 guitars every night for months on end, so free strings would be amazing but cheap strings are still a godsend. Plus, D'addario strings are what I'd been using anyway so nothing has to change but the depth of my poverty.

haha considering that most people on Jemsite can play concentric circles around me, that's not a bad idea in any way. If it were up to me, there'd be dozens of other Jemsiters getting free D'addario strings. So, until it is up to me (probably never) I'm going to have to say "sorry! no can!"

Trust me, you definitely do not want to end up like me.
I've actually been hearing about your band for quite a while, and checked you guys out not so long ago. I think you guys are awesome! Tight, melodic, creative, and technical metal that (to my ears, at least) is completely devoid of hot topic metalcore cliche. You guys have it easy though; being from NC, you're genetically pre-disposed to playing awesome music. You come from the same state as Between The Buried And Me, Prayer For Cleansing, Catharsis, Beloved, Azazel, Bloodjinn, I could seriously go on forever.

Next time I'm on tour in NC you should come hang out! If you dig Shai Hulud, my band will be out with in July/August.

And about my myspace blogs, they were written in anger (haha) and were almost entirely about the scene where I live (Long Island, NY) but I do have an extreme dislike for cyclops haircuts, girl pants, and most recently "deathcore".
