Old School Genesis - Dance On A Volcano

Dug this one up from the vaults, havent listened to it in a long time.

What a wonderful track, incredible intro, odd time signatures, experimentation(sp).

I highly recommend this CD to anyone looking for a bit of a change
Genesis - Tricks of the Tail incredible cd..

Ok that is my random post for the day

Genesis was great back then (they were good at doing pop/rock too, but it's not the same), I always loved Selling England by The Pound

Up till Seconds Out they were great... They were awesome with Gabriel, and they were good for two more albums... Then Hackett left...

Then Phil Collins started doing that pop stuff that was alright in its own right, but to me it just shouldnt have been called Genesis...

I think Duke, Abacab and Genesis definitely have their moments too, actually I got to listening the band when I heard Land of Confusion on MTV and my second album from them was We Cant Dance

My favorites are A Trick of the Tail and Selling England by the Pound.

Foxtrot, and Nursery Crime are also excellent. But all of Genesis with Phil isn't crap (is Wind and Wuthering crap?!). Anyone who hasn't listened to Seconds Out is missing a fantastic live disk. I'd personally rather listen to Phil sing the old Gabriel songs than Gabriel sing them. The idea that Genesis took this huge dive when Gabriel left and Phil stepped out from behing the kit never struck home with me.

Re: Old School Genesis - Dance On A Volcano

Although i don't listen to them much anymore, Genesis is one of my all-time fave bands...probably above Rush.

When i was at Berklee, a bunch of us did two shows called "Selling Fish by the Pound - A tribute to Genesis and Marillion"

The second show was performed the night before i graduated, and it happened to be the night Phil Collins was being honored in the Berklee performance Center before he got his honorary doctorate (1991). he was actually IN THE BUILDING while we were doing the show! I'd written to Tony Smith (Genesis/Phil's manager) and invited him to come watch. Phil wrote me back a few weeks later and apologized for not being able to make it. Was the hugest thrill of my first 21 years.

Anyway...here's the version of "Dance" we did - i was only a keyboard player at the time. Hadn't taken up guitar yet. I was singing too. We did the whole ending part too - i don't think Genesis ever even did that! There's one part where the Minimoog freaks out at the end (yes, i had a real one!).

Sorry about the soundquality - we didn't have good digital back in '91

enjoy

Genesis is great. I loved all their stuff. I'd like to get some of their stuff, like a greatest hits type of album. That's All, Abacab and Turn It Off, etc....good stuff.
