I have no faith in mindcrime II. I don't think these guys can really honor the first one. And I don't want a bad cd to ruin the first one for me.

I'm with ya. After a string of bad releases (after Empire), they'll do anything to get back into the limelight. Now granted, I live in Seattle (their hometown), so they are considered golden around here.

I pretty much like everything up to Q2K. Well...and Live Evolution is really good too.

Mindcrime II though... I'll wait and see.

I like everything except Hear in the Now Frontier. Promised Land is my favourite and I think some of the tracks on Q2K and Tribe are very strong, like Desert Dance, Sacred Ground, Right Side Of My Mind and Art of Life. I'll be interested to see if they go back to a more metal sound for Mindcrime II.

Most sequels are lame cash-grabs. But there are some exceptions.

Yeah, there definitely have been some very cool exceptions over the years. Unfortunately I can't think of anything besides Metropolis Pt. 2 by Dream Theater, but there have been some really good exceptions that I just can't think of right now.

Hopefully it will be Queensryche's The Empire Strikes Back, not their Godfather Part III.

It could easily be an old fogie self-parody.

Let's hope not. Many great bands were mercifully cut down either in their prime or before falling into ruin, such as Led Zep, DLR-VH, The Police, etc. Queensrhyce and the current VH weren't so lucky.

I have rarely been so excited and hesitant about anything- much less a new record. Having been one of the many people who had questions (and asked Geoff and Michael) about how Mindcrime ended and some of the plot twists, I am looking forward to the next chapter of the story. I don't see it as a cash grab, because with the thousands of shows Queensrhyche has done since Mindcrime, I'm sure they have been innundated with questions. Last tour, they did Mindcrime in its entirety. I see it more as giving the fans what they asked for- or dare I say it a farewell CD.

My main hesitance comes with the songwriting. Chris DeGarmo wrote a HUGE chunk of Mindcrime. With DeGarmo not being in the band any longer, I question the direction of the story. Then again, DeGarmo did contribute to Tribe, which was the bands strongest record in years. He may have been writing the sequel the whole time!

Regardless, I'll probably have it upon the first week of release.

Cheers,
Butch

I think that is very possible. Sometimes bands just run out of steam, it happens. These guys are still a bit too young to disappear forever (right Page and Plant? KISS ?) but this might be a good way to have the "first" retirement, which always makes it seem more special when a band comes back from retirement for a money making (somewhat money making, in Queensrhyce's cas) nostalgia tour.

Who knows, as '80s nostalgia gradually replaces '70s nostalgia to an extent (I can already see it happening) there may be a big demand for all of the bands of that era. No complaints from me as long as they do it well.

Some old fogie bands such as Fleetwood Mac and The Eagles and Neil Young have NEVER sounded better than in the '90s on comeback tours, etc. Then, there's Van Halen.....

FcuK YEAH THE RYCHE ROCKS!

I agree with you a little. I hope they dont fcuk it up. No matter what though Operation:Mindcrime will always be my favorite record.

Tate shaved his head, their new music sucks. Anything after Promised Land is pure shiiiiitttt!

I wish they would return to the Rage for Order sound. That record is absolutely amazing beyond any words I can fathom.

Ain't it amazing what you can do when you're not totally strung out or drunk?

I bet I can imagine how this one started...

Producer: Guys, if you don't recapture at least some of your old audience, you're going to be dropped. Oh by the way, the company would like you to repay some of the advance from the last disasterous record you released.

Band: Let's make a sequal to Operation Mindcrime!

Operation Mindcrime Part Deux: Capitalism Strikes Back

Queensryche stopped being a respectable band after Promised Land.
