Opeth : Lamentations DVD

Has anyone got this DVD yet? It was finally released in America this week. I'm a DIEHARD Opeth fan & will get it regardless, but I'd really like to hear some reviews. So, how is it?

I've had it for a few months. IT IS AMAZING! Set list is oustanding, playing is brilliant and it sounds and looks great. Get it as soon as you can, you'd have to have pretty damn high expectations to be disappointed.

Picked it up at Best Buy on Tuesday (only $10.99). FANTASTIC. Camera angles are pretty good for the most part, but the audio options really stand out. You get stereo, DD 5.1, AND a DTS track. I watched the whole first set which features "Damnation" in its entirety and I skipped through the second set (only because it was getting late). I thought it would just be okay, but I sat mesmerized the entire time. Their performance of "Deliverance" is worth the price tag by itself. I had the good fortune to see them on tour twice last year and both times I was completely taken aback. They may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's worth checking out the DVD.

I got it last night. It's EASILY one of the best music DVDs I've ever seen. Excellent concert filming & the documentary was especially informative. $10.99 @ Tower Records.

I got it too.

I love it. Great sound. Unbelievably good quality sound (sounds better in stereo). Better quality sound than the VAI dvd. Awesome guitar tones.

Video was much more pleasing to watch too.

Opeth did seem a little "uncomfortable" doing the damnation set, there was lots of dead space (silence). It made me uncomfortable feeling at times. But when they did the second set, they seemed more at home.

No outlandish stunts or anything ala vai, but incredible music. The special feature, behind the making of damnation-deliverance thingy was great.

At US$9.70 from dvdpacific.com it's an unbelievable buy. The acoustic work is brilliant, and the vocals are amazing. The second set may just blow you away if you've never heard of Opeth before. Or if your first intro to them was Damnation.

There are elements of death metal & they considered themselves a death metal band, even though I tend to disagree. However, there are beautiful acoustic, folk, & prog rock passages throughout their music. Yes, their are death metal vocals, but they also have some of the most incredible clean vocals you've ever heard (think Tool, Radiohead, Jeff Buckley). Mikael's exquisite clean voice is what sets them apart from every other death metal band.

Last year, they released 2 CDs at the same time. The 1st was Deliverance. It was the Opeth signature sound, but heavier than their previous releases. The 2nd was Damnation, a completely unplugged, un-metal CD of some of the most amazing acoustic guitar-based music around...all clean vocals. The Lamentations DVD is a single show with 2 sets...the 1st concentrates on the mellow acoustic stuff, the 2nd is the signature, MUCH heavier, Opeth sound.

It would be unfair to categorized into any one style. They are there own sound. I know NUMEROUS people who hate death metal, but after hearing Opeth, they've become rabid fans. If you can listen with an open mind, you'll be rewarded by the most original sound on the planet right now...or in the world of metal.

Opeth rules all.

think Death Dream Theater.....

so...that would be Progressive Death Metal. That's the best way I can describe it. (awesome guitars, drums and bass. Complex rhythms etc.)
