Agreed with what you said 100%....

Except maybe the Darkness wil inspire a real band to come out...and spawn a new generation of guitar harmonizing, falsetto singing, power chord-not-tuned-to D playing......

As I can't imagine someone saying "Hendrix?, Johnny Winter?, Brian Setzer? Warren DiMartini?.... no Justin Hawkins made me want to play guitar!!"

But I like your thinking Jester..... depressing, drug influenced, suicide, goth sounding, piss poor singers (talkers), with 7 string guitars, tuned 14 and a half steps down .....is getting real old.... as we approach 12 years of depressing music dominating the hard rock air waves.

Bring back the Poison, Skid Row, Zebra, Winger, Steelheart, Cinderella, Ratt, Quiet Riot!!!!

At least 80's hair metal was fun.

I give the Darkness credit for that....they don't have my favorite sound... but at least they aren't whining about their abusive father (Nickelback), or their torture with drugs (Alice in Chains).....or how the want to sacrifice a goat a grandma's house (Korn).

Nothing worse then a group of white guys whining about how rich they are.

Just to let you know there is a version of Permission to Land out in Japan that has a DVD with it.
This arrived at my place here today.

Look out for the new single with footage from the Blue Mountains outside of Sydney, Australia!

I was going to reply, but i can't be bothered to reply to what has basically become name calling on Guitar Wizard's behalf.....

You hide behind your "OPINION" with a bunch of near sighted, self congratulatory nonsense which bears no resemblance to what my musical experience tells me. (And if you are going to question my music knowledge, you really are trying the wrong thing).

I would like to know your favourite band GW. I could think of any number of reasons to hate them.

Good to see that all the shows for the darkness in the USA have been upgraded to bigger venues.....tickets this side of the atlantic are gold dust. Fortunately I know the engineer for a support who playued with them. If you are doubting their musical ability you are wrong.

Or maybe they are just not up to your level of guitar WIZARDRY.

How many million albums have you sold??? And I means ones featuring you, rather than ones that sold in your shop.....guess you are going to tell me you "WORK IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY" next....

Pete

BTW. I AM NOT IN A GOOD MOOD.....

Opinions are always going to vary. Some people like them, some don't. I just find them irritating. But some people like Robbie f%$&ing Williams and I'd gladly pay a hitman to rid the world of his scourge

What will prevent them from being any more than a novelty act is not whether they are taking themselves seriously and believe in their art, it's whether anyone else believes they are taking themselves seriously. After being exposed to them in countless radio and TV interviews, and hearing people constantly say that hey are serious, I still don't believe them. I still think they're taking the p1ss. And many other rock fans I know think the same. As long as that seed of doubt is there, they won't ever achieve the level that Queen, AC/DC etc attained. And we can be thankful for that

Most people I know that spend that kind of green on CDs don't care about talent, they just want whatever there is the most of on the shelves.

I hate the Darkness. They make me want to hurt small animals.

Well, I can't resist a good flame war... I'll keep this to a couple disjointed comments, though.

1.) I'm not particularly fond of the darkness. I've heard worse, but I've heard better. Basically, i think their vocalist just annoys me a bit; i guess I don't like falsettos. to each their own, though- after all, Nirvana was the first real reason I picked up a guitar, and this is sorta the antithesis of what Cobain was doing.

2.) as far as memorable guitar solos... a friend of mine (Devine, posts here sometimes) mentioned that he was pretty impressed with these guys, and at the very least, you had to give them credit for getting guitar solos back on the radio. My first thought was "There's a guitar solo on "thing called love?" Next time I heard it on the air, i listened. Sure enough, their was. It just didn't hold my interest enough for me to remember it.

Do I think they have a future? who knows. I thought Nickelback had a huge future ahead of them after hearing "the State." Bought "Silver Side Up" when it first came out, and thought, "well, that's it for those guys..." It seems i may have been wrong.

Do I mind theyre all over the radio? Not at all. It's different, and different is good. Like i said, I've heard a lot worse... It's just not my thing. Agree or disagree with me as you will- if you don'tt ake my opinion personally, I promise i won't do the same with yours.

they're just the kind of band i have a hard time getting worked up over either way- i wouldn't have expected them to generate this heated a discussion around here.

I'm not a big Darkness fan, but "...Thing Called Love" is growing on me. Don't think I'd buy the CD though.

As for Nickelback, I really like some of the stuff from their new CD.

And they still kick major ass live

Fairies wear boots... the singer is a total fairy, it's Framptom with a screamin' girls voice and no talent. That is probably an unfair statement, cuz the composition is descent and they have all the chemistry, hooks etc... it just blows my mind that it has captured such an audience. I personally wouldn't walk across the street to see those guys.
Just like with any flash in crack band,,,, lets see how they roll with change and if they can withstand the long run. They are on the front wave of musical change,,,,, but as we all know the industry moves in cycles,,, those who evolve remain in the game, those who don't go back to a modest club tour.

yeah, nickelback does have their moments...

You know what band I really hate, though? Trust Company. You've got nu-metal riffing, with a vocalist who'se breathy, airy vocal style owes more to the Backstreet Boys than it does Ozzy, Cobain, or any of the other guys who influence msot metal signers? I don't get it.

I saw them on Leno a few nights ago. I was really impressed! The singer even did a cool tapping lick in the end

They sounded great. Their musicianship is very solid, imo. And as a band.....they kick serious ass!
