Pat metheny's the way up
Anybody listened to this? If not I would recommend it. It's not an easy listen because it's 68 minutes long but there's some great playing there. If anyone else has some commentary I'd love to hear it.

Re: Pat metheny's the way up
i thoroughly enjoy that album everytime i listen. i hear more and more things going on each time. really great compostion. metheny is one of those improvisers who seems like he could lose it at any second, but always lands on his feet. very exciting to listen to! not to mention the rest of the band is incredible. i caught the tour in buffalo ( i wanna say it was the first show of the tour ), they played the whole album straight through, and then followed that with a number of great songs spanning his career, and all the arrangements were right on. i'd love to see them again. definitely one of the best concerts i've seen, if not the best!

Re: Pat metheny's the way up
I like it a lot, much more than most of the other recent PMG recordings. I like thow the shole composition draws from modern classical music, while still retaining a lot of Pat's style.

Pat is definitely one of my favourite jazz artists of all time. His music inspired me to play jazz in the first place.

Re: Pat metheny's the way up
It's easily his best album ever, and the best of 2005 so far (doubt that's going to change). I just love it.

Re: Pat metheny's the way up
Yeah... I had to go back to the S/T 1978 PMG debut several times and compare before I could proclaim it thus! I guess "easily" is an exaggeration.

Cool, i wasn't expecting the reaction seeing as this is more of a rock guitar forum. He's without a doubt one of the best jazz guitarist of his generation (although he and scofield keep trying for the top spot in my book.) I really thought that this was a great album compositionally.
