Paul Gilbert - Girl Crazy ...help?
Hey guys
I don't really know where to post it, i hope someone replaces it if it's in the wrong forum section..
Anyway!
Me and my band are hopefully going to play this song, Girl Crazy by
Paul Gilbert
.
We have a couple of weeks to practice it, it's a school project.. i'm currently attending a musical school, I'm 17 by the way.
Anyway, i was going to write down how the song goes, so i sat down with it for a while and got the intro and verse, but in the chorus i really don't hear waht happens with the guitars! i get the bass line and stuff like that, but i don't hear what happens with the guitars.
Actually, I emailed Gilbert himself, and the answer i got was a really long mail ( that totally made my week!), where he firstly wrote that it was a long time ago he played it last time, but remembering it goes in some unusual key like C#, D# or F#.
He also said he tuned the whole guitar one whole step down, but it wasnt necessary to do, as it's nearly no open strings in the song, and, now for the big thing:
He said that the trick with the chorus was that he played min7 and maj7 chords, but with two guitars, one playing a power chord, if it were a Dmin7, one guitar would play D and A (a fifth chord) and one
guitar playing
C and F (which would be a fourth chord), because a min7 chord sounds bad distorted, but two note chords sounds good.
now first of all, isnt those notes a maj7 chord? if i'm not totally wrong, it is. a D, an A, a C and an F. anyway, if it is i guess he just wrote down a quickie mail and meant maj7. Anyway, even with these facts i have a hard time transcribing the song.
I was wondering if anyone else has transcribed it? or if someone that just wants to transcribe a song could help me? I'm not like super good at doing those kinds of things (blame guitar pro and power tab), my ears aren't the best.
Anyway, a great weight would be lifted off my shoulders if anyone wishes to do anything.
Thanks
//Christopher
PS: Sorry if it's bad grammar or something. im doing my best, im from sweden, we only speak Viking

You got an e-mail from Paul Gilbert and then have the grapefruits to question his theory?!
My word, what I'd give to get a personal e-mail off of Paul Gilbert.

I had an e-mail conversation with snooker legend Steve Davis once. True story, I won a pair of pants he was auctioning off for charity. What a really nice guy too, sent me a autographed program of the last tournament by him and John Parrot, and gave a signed picture too.
Awesome!

Ah, the "Romford Slim" as they used to call him.
My dad used to hang about with him in the Snooker Halls round by where I live. We live about 5mins from Romford, and my dad used to play Snooker heavily when Steve was starting out.
Do you still own the pants? lol

Re: Paul Gilbert - Girl Crazy ...help?
No way!
Yeah I still got the pants, lol. Signed "To David, Happy potting, Steve Davis"
That is crazy though, how old was he when he was playing against him?
(Mods, could we retitle the thread to "Stalk 'til you drop" or something?)

Re: Paul Gilbert - Girl Crazy ...help?
D F A C is a Dmin7 chord, not sure how you are coming up with a maj7, that would be D F# A C#.
Hope that helps...

Re: Paul Gilbert - Girl Crazy ...help?
Yeah, but the hard thing is still to hear what chord is where :P i know the bass line, and follow it with the guitar, but i dont think that's right.. it doesn't sound exactly right, but we'll see about that. I'll probably fix it somehow, i have a couple of days to do it.
Anyway, if someone has any info, i would almost kill for it!
