Paul Gilbert playing 'Get Out of My Yard'

I didn't see it posted here, so I decided to do it myself.

Its just string skipping, and he only does it because he cant sweep. still sounds wicked but.

I guess he could if he wanted to... I heard itīs a phrasing thing, he doesnīt like the dynamics of sweeping.

Awsome. I'm glad he's not sweeping here. I think that would be too standard. Nice capo too!

I'm fairly confident, say, oh, 110% sure.... that if Gilbert wanted to sweep, he would have. I have several of his clinics on dvd.... he can sweep like Kotzen, Gambale, Malmsteen..etc if/when it wants to.

He feels sweeping is way overused, so he tries to avoid it.

In the clinic in seoul, he said he doesnt like to sweep because he stuffs it up most of the time.

Re: Paul Gilbert playing 'Get Out of My Yard'

I started this thread this with the music in mind, so let's not escalate it into a technique flame war. Contrary to popular belief, music isn't a competition. It doesn't matter who sweeps and who does not - it's about the music they play. Without decent context, technique is worthless.

Re: Paul Gilbert playing 'Get Out of My Yard'

Seems to have no trouble playing Malmsteen's stuff back in '86, judging by these 2 vids:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gn9AU...Paul%20Gilbert

Pay close attention to the second one.
