Re: Paul Gilbert- Silence Followed By A Deafening Roar

Sorry to dissagree with the majority here, but I did not find this album as good as you all say. I listened to it a couple of times and it didn't grab me much. Don't get me wrong, I love Gilbert's playing, but I prefer him in a band situation, e.g Mr. Big, Racer X. And to compare it to PAW....there is no comparison! PAW is one of the, if not the greatest instrumental albums of all time.

Surfing and PAW are noteworthy records. Flying in a Blue Dream actually did better according to Billboard but I think, overall, more people recognize these albums. Surfing and PAW aren't necessarily my favorites from their respective artists but this, I suppose, is how history shakes things out.
Personally, I think Silence is one of the best instrumental records since Wired, but only time will tell.

Love it, it's a great album.
Bought this and Satch's Professor Satchifunkilus on the same day (borrowed money of my mum and my friend to afford both ) and this one is getting listened to more than Satch (though that's also a great album).
Can't wait to see him perform some of these songs live on the 12th of may!
I hope he plays suite modale, I've been listening to that since the album was leaked onto youtube non-stop!

I just listened a couple of time to the album and although i do like senor Pablo's playing and a couple of songs, i don't think it's PAW great.

It's just a very nice, instrumental guitar album.

I didn't have high hopes for SFBADR since I found GOOMY to be a bore. GOOMY was good, but every time I played the album it couldn't keep me interested. The album would always fade away as background noise when I tried to listen to it. SFBADR is a huge save by Pablo! It's so much better than GOOMY in terms of song structure, melody, hooks, riffs, solos, harmonies, everything. I'd like to see Pablo release a DVD for this album as well.

Thanks for letting me know! Who knows how long until there's a US release, just going to have to wait it out.

I had to go to Amazon for GOOMY but SFBADR was available on its release day at my local Best Buy! They since replaced the copy I bought with two more.
It's too bad they don't release more of his catalog. Burning Organ and Alligator Farm are incredible!
Paul gets released in Japan first because he's a much bigger artist there, I'm guessing.

i think paul thinks he's turning japanese. he lives there, releases there first, plays there most, married a japanese chick, and to me, neglects us here in the states with lack of releases.

He lives in LA now. His wife is Japanese and his main record representation is the Japanese side of whatever he's on. That's why. People do love him over here. But, yeah he moved back to LA 3-4 years ago.
