PAUL GILBERT, ZAPPA, VAI, etc.

Hi out there,

I was looking for some information on Paul Gilbert's latest release SPACE SHIP ONE and found this forum where the guitar rules ! Cool ! : )

So, 1st of all :
Has anyone bought the japanese release of P-Gilbert's SS1 ? It's supposed to have one bonus track but I see 14 tracks listed on both the japanese version and the US/Euro version. Is there a hidden track or something else that would make this japanese release more interesting that the other ones ?

2nd : Being a fan of guitarists such as Zappa,Vai, Satriani & co. I wanted to know if anyone has heared of the tour the sons of Zappa have put together and are there any info about the special guests who are to be invited ?

I live in Paris and will attend Vai concert and wonder if I should break my piggy moneybox to attend the Zappas' show : )

Thank you.

dJ.

PS : All time fav guitar oriented CDs :

Anything by Frank Zappa
S Vai : Passion & Warfare / Sex & Religion
J Satriani : J Satriani / Surfing W/ The Alien
P Gilbert : Alligator Farm / Gilbert Hotel
Marcel Dadi : La Guitare a Dadi

The bonus track is "We All Dream Of Love" and it's on the the US release. Great CD...a bit more punk and darker than previous releases, but as always, awesome guitar playing.

I noticed that Paul sports a vintage Gibson ES355 on the cover of this new CD and also on the DVD (Space Ship Live)... How's this possible? He's endorsed by Ibanez right?

He has a ton of the lawsuit-era ibanez guitars, that are pretty much exact copies of gibsons. if you look at the headstock on that guitar, it says ibanez, not gibson. among some of his others are a double-neck SG copy.

Love how theres like 2 sections of the cd, the first part, punk and sorta dark, and then the more ballad-like part...

Space Ship One is sub-par. Burning Organ is much better.

Ok, so for once there's nothing extra on that japanese realese ! Thanks.

I had heared about the DVD and will buy it too ! I haven't missed a single solo release from PG since he left Mr Big. "More punk & darker" sounds good to me ! I actually always like the punky ethic in PG release, by that I mean his D.I.Y & record quickly attitude.

He sould tour Europe in August/September. Last time he played in Paris was a clinic he did to support Ibanez and his first album, that was a looong time ago !

Still don't know if I'll go to "Zappa Plays Zappa" : that might be a last minute concert-going thing ; )

SS1 is alright. It's still a good listen but I prefered some of his earlier releases.

I have the DVD and the original SS1 CD from Japan. The SS1 DVD features all the songs from the CD, as well as some mr. big/racer x/old stuff takes and 2nd takes(or alternative takes). He does a few acoustic work as well!
