Petrucci solo: March 2nd
According to Paul Warren on the petrucciforums, the release date for JP's solo album is march 2nd. However, the label hasn't been announced, and there are no signs on amazon or any of those sites. I think it's just another delay. What do you guys think?

It's not a delay tactic. It's really ready!
It will be a Sound Mind Music release and available through his site.

They aren't taking preorders. It's just going to be posted on March 1st and shipped as fast as they can.

Hey Paul, how come it's not being released by Vai's label? I know they had previously talked about it, and the Rudess/Petrucci evening album is on there already. Kinda strange that he'd forgo that kind of distribution.

As far as I know, it was never really seriously considered. It's kind of become an internet rumor that grew and grew, despite the fact that he never said anything about using FN. People even quoted me as saying that he was going to use FN, but I never said that either, LOL. Maybe he responded to people's quetions about it, but it seems that's about as far as it went.
I have no idea why he didn't consider FN, but I could throw out my personal opinions which may be wrong or right.
The Rudess/Petrucci thing had already sold very well via his website, so putting it on FN after a while gave it another life. Also, we really don't know what kind of deal Vai gives artists. Perhaps it's better than average, perhaps it's not. But I don't think we can assume it's better - we just don't know. With this cd, JP paid for everything himself and he has to recoup all of those expenses. So I can easily see him wanting to sell it himself, especially after the success with the JP/Rudess one on his site.
Lastly, and strictly my observation, I am not impressed in the least with FN's distribution. I've looked for their cds many, many times and have rarely been able to find them anywhere. I've heard quite a few similar stories from others. Maybe it's just my bad luck, but I can only go by personal experience on this. Because it doesn't really help me if others can find the cds in their stores, but I never can. And I think if we voice this enough, it can only be good for FN, because they need to improve the distribution if they are expected to be considered a serious label. For now, and since I have to internet shop for most cds I want, I'd rather go to guitar9.com because they've been very reliable at having a huge available catalog.

Re: Petrucci solo: March 2nd
maybe John didn't want any affiliatons with favoured nations??
my other opinion is that maybe he wanted some other than FN?
G3 2005 is in Japan and i guess John will be playing some of his new tunes over there. Lucky guys!

Re: Petrucci solo: March 2nd
I ordered the album from his site a couple of days ago, so we'll see....
Are these songs all new, or are some of them going to be from his 2001 G3 set...anyone know?
