Pink Floyd- The Wall

VH1 Classic is playing The Wall right now.
Am I the only Pink Floyd fan that thinks this movie sucks?
I would rather watch them play live than watch a movie interpretation of their album.
Is there something I'm missing or is there anyone else that thinks it's pointless?

(Only Pink Floyd fans please! I'd rather not here about how you think Pink Floyd sucks in general)

Thumbs up

I thought the movie was ok but of course I rather listen to the Cd or watch Roger Waters live in Berlin 1990!!!
The wall in particular was very inspirational for me when I was coming up as a young guitarist!!!

Just as it's really hard to make a good movie adaptation from a book, the same must be said to be true about translating the narrative of a concept album to a movie. Sure, the album has somewhat linear story, but just because it's a story doesn't mean it fares well in another format- especially with music, because it's more than just a narrative- it's an "aural" experience that affects everybody differently- and that can't be transferred onto film.

Well, if nothing else, you can't beat the soundtrack

I've seen The Wall somewhere in the neighborhood of 50,000 times...they used to do midnight showings of the Wall & Rocky Horror twice a weekend in my neighborhood. Used to go just about every week.

There's a lot of cool symbolic stuff in there - and you can't beat the animation, especially with Empty Spaces and What Shall we do now (not on the original CD).

You definitely have to be familiar witht he music and the concept and watch it more than once to "get it".

The commentary on the DVD is good too.

Lol.....no doubt there

I love the movie. But not enough to watch it 50,000 times (I would tell you to get a life, Kenny, but I am in no posistion to do so )

Demiurge pretty much spelled with this part of his post:

it's an "aural" experience that affects everybody differently

You know, sicky, kinda like some prople can see images in swirls and other cannot

We're going back to when I was 16/17/18. It was quite a life :-p

I smoked pot only a handful of times in my life...i think the first time was before going to see The Wall. I thought I'd have some sort of religious experience. i didn't. It only burnt my throat.

I ended up being more of a 'Rocky Horror" person during that time in my life. That was quite a socail life i derived from that!

Maybe you should take the advice of a former president and not inhale

I loved the Rocky Horror too. We used to do that about every weekend! It was a nice alternative to a life of crime

Re: Pink Floyd- The Wall

While I haven't seen it as many times as kennydoe has, I have seen it quite a few times. And it's not like I'm some casual fan, last time I checked I had just about every Pink Floyd album (no, I'm not a stoner). I think I just liked it better when I was a kid. I loved the visuals when I was younger.
Like Kenny said, the animation is awesome. It just seems that now that I'm a little older, it doesn't appeal to me. I'd rather watch a live performance.

Of course, now that I think about it, watching it when I was a kid was probably a contributing factor to why I was (and still am) such a wierdo.

I don't think you can blame that on "The Wall"

And sure, I'd rather see a live performance too, but I'll always like the movie
