Porcupine Tree

Hey, anyone else here into Porcupine Tree? A couple of friends got me into them , and now I have their new album which is spectacular IMO.

Reminiscent of Radiohead/Tool...but I hear their earlier albums are heavier.

Opinions?

Re: Porcupine Tree

Love 'em... had no idea the new album was out yet, though, but they played most of it the last time they came around- good stuff. You mean 'Fear of a Blank Planet,' right?

I wouldn't say that their earlier stuff is heavy at all, though. I'd say that they've gotten heavier over time. Two of their early albums I'd recommend are 'Signify' (gorgeous psychedlic rock a la Pink Floyd) and 'Stupid Dream' (just reissued, more structured songs but still brilliant).

If you like their mellower stuff, I'd also recommend Blackfield, which is a collaboration between Steve Wilson (PT's main man) and some Israeli pop star (whom I'm still trying to figure out what he contributes other than a couple vocal lines). They have two albums, can't go wrong with either.

Great band - saw them live last week. Don't have the new album yet, but I'll pick it up sooner or later. I am still missing some of their earlier albums and will be getting them too at some point.

Re: Porcupine Tree

Great band, theyve deffinately got heavier over time, the early stuff was very soundscape based, not too many vocals but lots of effects and stuff.

My favorite albums are Stupid Dream and Up the Downstair, but the new one is very very good too! Been listening to it non stop since it came out .

Re: Porcupine Tree

my roommate listed to them a lot which means I heard a lot of them. I didn't fancy them too much although there was one song that I enjoyed. I dont know what it's called though.
