Love 'em... had no idea the new album was out yet, though, but they played most of it the last time they came around- good stuff. You mean 'Fear of a Blank Planet,' right?
I wouldn't say that their earlier stuff is heavy at all, though. I'd say that they've gotten heavier over time. Two of their early albums I'd recommend are 'Signify' (gorgeous psychedlic rock a la
Pink Floyd) and 'Stupid Dream' (just reissued, more structured songs but still brilliant).
If you like their mellower stuff, I'd also recommend Blackfield, which is a collaboration between Steve Wilson (PT's main man) and some Israeli pop star (whom I'm still trying to figure out what he contributes other than a couple vocal lines). They have two albums, can't go wrong with either.
