RAREST VAI VID I"VE EVER SEEN- THE RIDDLE!!!!!!!!

Has anyone ever seen this before???????
I thought I had every vid....then I found this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAY1KCN2HMg

Anyone know where and when this was recorded? Looks like during the Zappa years.
Clearly before P&W was released.....looks like a high school gym.

Steve looks about 20 years old.

Looks like the strat he used when touring with Zappa- but the pickguard is much more beatup and he's got Carvin amps so he probably already had the endorsement.

Anyone recognize the other players?

I'm trying to get the info before someone notifies the Vai-team and they pull this vid off the air.

That's his course at the GIT in the 80s. You can find the whole course (approx 1 hour) on youtube, it has also Viv Woman and loads of other cool stuff

85 indeedy. I have the gig on VHS but last time I dug it out it was getting rather grainy with age. You get to hear all sorts of goodies during that show including tunes that would later become the majority of Alcatrazz's disturbing the peace album. A young Vai, Chris Frazier & Stu Hamm. Blue Powder era!

Definitely a Strat he's playing, you can clearly see the Fender logo on the headstock.

Re: RAREST VAI VID I"VE EVER SEEN- THE RIDDLE!!!!!!!!

just from a musicians perspective, isn't it great to see what a musical idea can begin as and what it can flourish into - gives me hope as I am sure we all have recordings that are 5 years old - what potential these ideas can have and with lot of time and effort what they can become.

I'm inspired - thanks for the post!

Absolutely, some arrangements need to be nurtured for many years often just dwelling as warmups etc, then one day they just evolve and become a much loved peice of music.
This is kind of the sentiment Satch spoke of in regards to the Coldplay case.
