Re: Rodrigo y Gabriela
I heard these guys about 3 years ago, an Irish friend of mine introduced me to them. They are pretty good. They did a cover of a Metallica tune on acoustic guitars and he sent me an mp3 of it.

Re: Rodrigo y Gabriela
They moved from Mexico to Ireland, and started out busking here, eventually playing bigger gigs and gaining quite a following. Theyve since started to break into other markets, they seem to be doing quite well now.
Honestly, im not a big fan, probably because they have been playing in Ireland so much and for so long that its very easy to get bored of them. Their songs dont have a lot of variety IMO, they all pretty much sound the same...

Re: Rodrigo y Gabriela
It is very rhythmical!!!
you can definitely see clear influences of Huapango and Flamenco in their playing! it is fun as hell to play like that as well very challenging!!!

Re: Rodrigo y Gabriela
I heard them about a year ago, it was their version of Metallica's 'Orion'. I dug it.

Re: Rodrigo y Gabriela
They did 'One' as well, that was the song I heard. Do you have an mp3 of Orion? I like the original, it'd be interesting to hear their take on it. I also dig what DJ Shadow did with Orion on his "Endtroducing" album from 1996.

Re: Rodrigo y Gabriela
The camera work, direction and editing of this video is so bad that the people who produced it should be shot.
Handicam waving all over the place, close ups and zooms and no shot is longer than 2 sec.... what's up with that?
I though the whole point of a video is so people can SEE the performance.
The audience shots are clearly not from the same performance but the best thing is the zoom into the guy's shoe at 0:24. wtf?

Not a fan.
And I HATE the fact that everybody over here thinks they're the best players to ever grace the earth.

Re: Rodrigo y Gabriela
Another guitarist to look out for playing flamenco is Canadian Jesse Cook. Saw him playing live in Singapore once, he just blew me away.

Aye, I'll agree with ya. They're not bad, but I can see Tom's point, he's probably sick of them.

Re: Rodrigo y Gabriela
Maybe Jesse Cook is a great flamenco player and maybe he can play in circles around Paco De Lucia but he doesn't show it in any of those videos. He seems like a really nice guy, though.
Now, this is flamenco:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLS-pXwAc4o
pardon the crappy quality of the video..
P.S. real men don't play nylon
string guitars
with a pic!
