I'm disappointed.
That's actually been the problem with everything since Strange Beautiful Music, IMO. Engines of Creation is the last thing he did that seemed like he was giving it his all.

Re: SATCH'S NEW ALBUM
Hey, has anybody bought the album off iTunes? I just picked up the cd locally and just found out iTunes has a special track on it that I'd like to have...
unfortunately you have to buy the whole album to get it (you can't just download the special track by itself). If somebody got the iTunes special track could you possibly give me a PM?

It must be US iTunes only with the extra track , the UK version has just the 10 songs on the CD
So far I think Come on baby and Out of the sunrise are great, I'm not so sure about some of the other tracks, maybe they'll grow on me

Re: SATCH'S NEW ALBUM
There are new people right now (or at least not the usual suspects), I feel like Satch has long since passed the torch. Three people to REALLY look at:
1.
Andy Timmons
(all his solo albums)
2. Marco Sfogli (the new album is his solo thing, "There's Hope" - its amazing.)
3.
Guthrie Govan
All of em are absolutely IMO the best guitarists on the planet right now for instrumental stuff.

Re: SATCH'S NEW ALBUM
Well, not everybody is gonna like it and that's cool.
I wish I could find someone that doesn't just sound like fusion, and that's what govan, timmons give me.
I want rock not fusion.
I should say that Kiko Louriero does it for me in spades, but he's only got one solo rock album and the other is Latin Jazz both good but I want more.
Of course his band Angra is an amazing prog/power metal band.

Re: SATCH'S NEW ALBUM
Angra in my opinion the last two albums were kind of eh, but Rebirth I thought was pretty damn great. You should REALLY check out Marco Sfogli's new solo album man, if you like Govan and Timmons you'll dig his stuff. He has some of the best phrasing I've ever heard in my life.

I thought Temple Of Shadows wa the best metal album I have ever heard.
Auroa Consurgens was pretty good but TOS was a hard act to follow.
I'll have to check those dudes out. But, I still love Satch.

Re: SATCH'S NEW ALBUM
Oh no doubt, the early Satch stuff is very cool. I just felt like Temple of Shadows was one of those albums that I listened to and was like "ok this is pretty cool" and then it was just forgotten. Best metal album for me would have to be between Dream Theater's Scenes From A Memory, Symphony X's Odyssey or Divine Wings of Tragedy, and Ayreon's Human Equation.

dude, give andy a listen. even though there is a peppering of jazz in his vocabulary and phrasing, he's really a rock guy at heart. especially his latest offering (resolution) and the compilation cd before it that had 4 new songs. i do agree that guthrie is very much fusion ala greg howe, which i agree does get monotonous after awhile.
