When has he done it before Rodney? I'd like to know. Help me form a more educated opinion, don't just reference things and not explain them if it would be better evidence for your argument.

On another note:

Has anyone seen Coldplay's statement? It's pretty condescending. They proclaim that "Joe Satriani did not write "Viva La Vida," and make no mention of the musical similarities. They only speak as though Satch is saying he wrote their song, which he isn't saying. He never said the word "steal" he just talks about having written said progression and chord rhythm before this new song came out. He never claimed to be an uncredited "writer" or their hit song.

Also, to ignore Joe completely on this issue was rude.
here it is: http://www.guitarnoize.com/blog/comm...of-plagiarism/

I've said it before I don't think they knowingly stole anything, but their attitude suggests that they think of Joe as a small musician that is trying to cash in on them and not worth their time. Whether Joe is or not I don't know but it is arrogant of them to assume that his claim is erroneous and that he should be ignored completely.

My point was that the song by Los Enanitos Verdes you posted has no similarities to "If I Could Fly". If you watch the video of the other song I was referring to, you can hear the resemblance to the song by Los Enanitos Verdes.

I heard Gwyneth Paltrow's ex Brad Pitt is suing Chris Martin for his similar use of a sure-fire sexual technique called "The Swirl" that was performed "clockwise, but it's not written in stone."

Anything that has even the slightest chance of resulting in less Coldplay is for the greater good of everyone. Therefore I say Joe is a true humanitarian, and deserves this years Nobel peace prize.

Rock on!

Re: Satriani Sues Coldplay

It's funny, I'm a member of a certain Fender enthusiast forum, and there is a similar thread. The difference is that for the most part, people seem to be on the side of crapplay, I mean coldplay over there. Right down to one member claiming that the guys in coldplay have more talent in thier feet than Satch. Absurd.

Its nice to be a part of a forum with some sense of sanity.

Funny, cause its practically the same exact thing over here except with Satch being the dominant one

Now I don't give a **** if they did or didn't rip off Satch, but the bias is a little ridiculous

Just for clarification, I meant I feel jemsite has a little more sanity. Not that all musicians aren't a little crazy anyway!

Re: Satriani Sues Coldplay

I have to admit for better or worse that I have never heard Cold Play. I dont listen to the radio or watch MTV so I have no clue who half of the new bands are out there. Can someone tell me which artist copyrighted their tune first? I assume it was Satriani and thats why he has filed the lawsuite otherwise it would probably be the other way around. Listening to the example posted on Youtube though.... Come on... I mean its friggen identicle. Crap it even overlapped and had the same tempo! lol Maybe they thought "hey an easy idea for a tune would be to grab an instrumental artist's tune and add lyrics to a cool catchy rhythm and melody. No one would ever connect the two." I dont know but I do know the tunes sound identicle in the parts played. TOO identicle to just be a coincidence in my opinion. I dont care whether it was Cold Play or Satriani. Someone copied and whoever has the copyright first on their tune wins.
