Re: Satriani Sues Coldplay
Anything that has even the slightest chance of resulting in less Coldplay is for the greater good of everyone. Therefore I say Joe is a true humanitarian, and deserves this years Nobel peace prize.
Rock on!

Re: Satriani Sues Coldplay
It's funny, I'm a member of a certain Fender enthusiast forum, and there is a similar thread. The difference is that for the most part, people seem to be on the side of crapplay, I mean coldplay over there. Right down to one member claiming that the guys in coldplay have more talent in thier feet than Satch. Absurd.
Its nice to be a part of a forum with some sense of sanity.

Funny, cause its practically the same exact thing over here except with Satch being the dominant one
Now I don't give a **** if they did or didn't rip off Satch, but the bias is a little ridiculous

Just for clarification, I meant I feel jemsite has a little more sanity. Not that all musicians aren't a little crazy anyway!

Re: Satriani Sues Coldplay
I have to admit for better or worse that I have never heard Cold Play. I dont listen to the radio or watch MTV so I have no clue who half of the new bands are out there. Can someone tell me which artist copyrighted their tune first? I assume it was Satriani and thats why he has filed the lawsuite otherwise it would probably be the other way around. Listening to the example posted on Youtube though.... Come on... I mean its friggen identicle. Crap it even overlapped and had the same tempo! lol Maybe they thought "hey an easy idea for a tune would be to grab an instrumental artist's tune and add lyrics to a cool catchy rhythm and melody. No one would ever connect the two." I dont know but I do know the tunes sound identicle in the parts played. TOO identicle to just be a coincidence in my opinion. I dont care whether it was Cold Play or Satriani. Someone copied and whoever has the copyright first on their tune wins.

One thing is for sure. It shows how musical Satch is. His instrumental melodies are
litterally
singable. Not many "shredders" or instrumental guitarist can say that. I also like how Satch's tune is nearly identical but in it's own way it's uplifting as opposed to the typical downcast sound of the emo fags.

Emo Fags being the operative word in this case :P

Oooh, just checked at Amazon and their info correct, Joe's actually came first, April '04, while the other is from Aug '04.
The live track is from '04 but that Argentinian band - Los Enanitos Verdes - already recorded the track for their '02 album Amores Lejanos. Also note that Los Enanitos Verdes means little green men, so Vai has ripped them off as well

The melody itself (not sure about the chord progression) is an even older vocal melody, check out this Chris Rea track:

also note the jazzy, latin feel. No guitar; weird since Chris is a guitarist.
I honestly think that with thousands of song written every year, stuff like this statistically will get recycled every two to four years or so.
Not that I'm defending Coldplay, who have always struck me as a very poor U2 tribute band with more piano.

Re: Satriani Sues Coldplay
I'm sure there are people here who know Joe personally a lot better than I do, but I've interviewed him a few times and from the time I spent talking with him I just don't see him doing this simply on the chance of cashing in.

Dude little green men was on the Flexable album back in the early 80's. No way Vai ripped them from this band....

djeez...trouble reading emoticons?
btw both Flex-able and Los Enanitos Verdes' first album was 1984, not that it's relevant, since the term little green men has been in use since the 50s.

Re: Satriani Sues Coldplay
There's no denying that the songs sound the same, but I'm sure Coldplay knows that people will love what ever garbage that comes out of their collective vaginas, so I doubt the knowingly ripped off Satch. Joe's probably just happy that he can make some money without putting his signature on more useless products, so good for him.

LOL, yeah. I meant over at the other forum, there are folks who say that Coldplay are more talented than Satch. I find that laughable. Here, at least it seems people have a better grasp of reality regarding levels of musicianship regarding Coldplay vs. Satch. Not that all music has to be a technical contest, but to suggest that Coldplay are even in the same league is Satch is just plain bizzare, especially from a group of musicians.
