Stopping Ashlee Simpson

Found this last night, I thought as cruel as it seems,,,it's also felt some what justified. I can respect artist from all genres,,, but come on this girl is hurting people. Talent is one thing, but riding the shirt tale of moderately talented sister? While the greedy Dad sells his kids to media? It makes me sick that entertainment industry would take on something like this. It's never been more obvious,,,"it's all about the money".

However if you want to feel like you have maybe done something to help stop this madness check out this link: http://www.PetitionOnline.com/StopAsh/
Not that it's going to stop anything,,, but for a brief moment I felt like my voice was heard...lol

Re: Stopping Ashlee Simpson

i've got a better idea:

"don't buy her albums"

the media can play her damn songs all they want, but if they start losing money and she becomes unprofitable, they'll pull her pretty quick. that's the upside to the money ruling a good part of the industry.

...and to be honest, seeing people pool together to stop an artist (albeit maybe a bad one) to stop creating, to me, is rather sickening.

I don't think too many guys like us are going to make a dent by not buying her albums.
Her target demographic is much younger and predominantly female.
Go to the local mall and you should see her core audience.
Lil' mini Brittanies and mini-Ashli running about with too much makeup and not enough clothing for their age. Not that I'm against either, but just not that young, no good can come from it. (Man, do I sound old, but I think I'd feel weird scoping out 13 year old girls in the mall at my 30-something age.)

Somehow, I'm doubting she has much of anything to do with the "song" writing. I'm sure it's probably all written by corporate producer types with their corporate clip-on ponytails. I'd be surprised if she could even read music for that matter.

Re: Stopping Ashlee Simpson

I doubt she would care at all tat a bunch of people dont like her. I mean, she's a teenager like me, so, if I played at a football game and got boo'd i'd probably be pretty upset, and have less confidence in myself...................unless I was a friggin millionare. Her and her family are worth quite alot of money so i'm guessing its not that big a deal to her. she's young and has the rest of her life to spend millions of dollars. You laugh at her cause she isn't a good singer....she laughs at you cause you get excited about tax returns.

I hate her. She's the biggest shame to music. Everytime I see her on TV my blood boils cuz people like Vai deserve the popularity way more not some stupid b*tch that can't even sing to begin with. ARRRGH I'm pissed >:O

Re: Stopping Ashlee Simpson

Damn, I kind of like her voice!

For real, I don't think it's that bad. And the whole lipsyching fiasco...yeah, yeah, she tried to lip synch, and she got caught. I recently remember seeing a video where she didn't lip synch. Maybe her voice wasn't as good as the studio version, but still...is your hatred towards her enough to warrant pulling her albums off the shelves?

You mean like Vai with Zappa?

If you can't listen to the music for what it is, then simply don't listen to it. Many seem to argue that this type of music is "easy" and "fake", I know I could never write a hit if I wanted to. Untill you know what it takes - shut up and play yer guitar.

Re: Stopping Ashlee Simpson

it's one thing to write a hit, or have someone write you a hit. It's being able to actually perfom the hit honestly and live that is the true test of any "artist". Studios today can make anyone sound good, it's the live performance that will tell all.

Exactly. I couldn't care less if Ashlee Simpson sells albums or not but my criteria for rating any musician is the live setting. No matter how much I like a band's music, if they can't do it live I won't listen to it or buy it. I don't mean it has to sound exactly the same live as in the studio, play around with the tune all you want at the show it's your song, but it still has to sound good. It has to sound like they actually were the one's who did the playing/singing in the studio. And there is absolutely no excuse for lip-syncing in a live setting. None. Ever. For any reason. Lip-syncing is for videos (something else I'm not particularly fond of... the concept video. I'd much rather just see the band play but that's another subject). The funny thing is, the whole milli vanilli lip-syncing thing years ago killed their "career", now it's just "oops" and life goes on. The state of today's music industry isn't what's sad, it will only do what it can get away with like most other businesses, it's the state of the average music consumer that scares me.

Re: Stopping Ashlee Simpson

Still, many channels doesn't allow artists to perform live on TV. I don't know if it's the same in the US, but here in Norway I know there are "regulations" for this. I'm not sure why, but I can understand it.

I dare to say that (hobby)musicians are too focused on the performance, when all they (the radio/TV/artist) wants is to play the song with the artist present.

Dude, if you think Ashley Simpson is the worst thing ever happen to music, you've been VERY fortunate in your listening experience. Trust me, for every vaguely talented pop diva who goes platinum based on the 13-year-old girl demographic, there's scores who don't. If you don't like ashley, imagine what you'd think of them.

And frankly, I don't think Vai "deserves" to be popular any more than she does. Nor do I think he cares to.
