Re: Suggest me some jazz
"Casino" from Al DiMeola is an awesome CD.
Also the Al Dimeola/Paco DeLucia/Jean Luc Ponty stuff is quite tasty as well.
Jan Hammer is another....
Lee Ritenour (another Ibanez player)
hmmm...thinking......thinking......

Re: Suggest me some jazz
In my own personal opinion, the two best jazz albums of all time are "Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis (w/ Coltrane), and "Sketches of Spain" by Miles Davis with Gil Evans. "Kind of Blue" is THE jazz album. You simply have to own it. Go out and buy it now! Even though there's no guitar in the album, trust me you will start playing along on guitar. Let me tell you, Coltrane is tough to keep up with!
"Sketches of Spain" feels quite orchestrated for a jazz album, but it presents some of the most amazing soundscapes I've ever heard. It took me a few listens to appreciate it, but now sometimes when I listen to it I get chills. Seriously.

Re: Suggest me some jazz
Jaco Pastorius - Jaco pastorius - portrait of tracy (track five) is one of the most beautiful pieces of music i have ever heard..
Charles Mingus - Mingus ah um is also worth checking out.
May be expensive though as you will probably, like me, end up buying
a bass...
Think Jaco also did an album with
pat metheny
but i havent been able to track it
down yet.. could be awesome though

For a particular album to check out: Jimmy Smith - Cool Blues.
Eddie MacFadden does some great guitar work on this disk, and Smith's organ playing is great.

Re: Suggest me some jazz
Well jazz is tough to get into for some folks. If you like rocking stuff, I'd suggest the Frank Gambale,
Stu Hamm
and Steve Smith trio CDs. There are three of them and they're arse-kicking fusion at its best.
If you want straight up jazz, I'd suggest Miles or other classic artists. At least you can usually find their CDs pretty cheap, especially if you go for compilations.

It was Metheny's debut album on ECM "Bright Size Life". Jaco is not yet fullly developed on there, but the album is amazing.
All good sugestions above - I would add McCoy Tyner (Piano),
Allan Holdsworth
(guitar), the classic fusion bands (Weather Report, Return to Forever, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Tony Williams Lifetime), Chick Corea (piano), Keith Jarrett (piano), Jean-Luc Ponty (violin), Jan Garbarek (sax), Miroslav Vitous (bass),
Charlie Hunter
(8-string guitar), Nguyen Le (guitar).

Re: Suggest me some jazz
Miles Davis...yes, "Kind of Blue" is phenomenal.
Allan Holdsworth...the KING of legato & "outside" playing. Check out the live CDs "Then" & "All Night Wrong"
Charlie Hunter..."Ready Set Shango" holds a special place in my heart.
Stanley Jordan...the KING of 8-finger tapping. The CDs are allright, but he has to be seen live to truly appreciate it.
