That guitar's not metal enough...

Check this crap out.

I'm at practice and a few friends of the band stop in. We go on about our business since our schedule is tight in September with a nice(!) show, cd cover work and pics, 2 solid weeks of recording(12hr/days) and another mastering and straight into production first week in October. Anyway, one of them asked me what guitar I'm using for the up & coming show. I reply, "My Ibanez's, the puzzle for the main and 20061 for back-up or reverse depending on my mood."...... moments later they both hit me with.....

"They're not metal enough. Why don't you play your metal guitars?"

What? How naieve(sp?) is that statement? At that point I told them to shove their two-fisted-horns up their collective a**es. Do people really think this way?

Yeah, a few friends have said the same thing to me. They thought a Fender Strat with Seymour Duncan Cool Rails and Hot Rails would not sound metal...........................until I blasted them away with some metal riffage! hahaha, Ibanez is the creator of the metal guitar!

Re: That guitar's not metal enough...

Eh, I get told all the time that my J-custom is a wussy guitar. Usually by people who have a squire strat/BC Rich Warlock and who have been playing less than 6 months.

My HM Strat is quite 'metal'; (well, I guess it should be, being a Heavy METAL Strat) it's black and has EMGs (SA/SA/60 to be precise) and a Kahler non-recessed trem. I'm sure I'll get told it's not metal quite soon when I finish doing the sparkle green tiger finish on it.

I say just let the playing speak for itself.

Probably they came to this conclusion because the shape of your Ibanez puzzle guitar was not ROCK enuff because it didnt look anything like a Warlock or a Flying V perhaps. Sometimes these people really puzzled you.......

Re: That guitar's not metal enough...

Metal is in the fingers and the soul. In fact, if an ibanez isn't metal, then a strat certainly isn't, and I wouldn't criticise trevor pires' (obituary) choice of guitar a few years back, which was, incidentally, a strat.

Not to mention the list of ibanez players that do metal. It's quite extensive.

yeah, all the people that believe only certain types of guitars are "metal" they probably dont know much about guitar or they're just dumb because like you said its in the fingers and the soul

I'll trade you that non-metallic puzzle crap for my OH SO Metal RG-550 Black with rosewood neck (very dark rosewood, with very metal 6100 dunlop fretwires)
That would make you MUCH cooler than that goofy guitar you're using now.
I'd be happy to help you with your quest to be 'none more black' \\m// Keep the torch burning!

Indeed. I could make my cheesy little Danelectro 56U2 a "metal" guitar if I played it that way. I guess those dudes are more concerned with looks.
