I'm gonna go off the beaten path and say the second solo in "Look my Way" by Joe Satriani. Its one of the coolest, happy blues solos out there that just makes me smile every time I hear it.

I have to add this one to the list -

Elliot Fisk playing Paganini's fifth caprice. It will absolutely floor you!

Go to Harmony Central - I think they have a transcription - lock yourself in a room for a few months! Happy shredding!

That solo owns. It's probably the best metal solo ever. It was recorded in one take btw, "live" in the studio. That whole album was recorded that way, in a live band situation but in the studio of course.

Here it is ( the solo ) if anyone wants to hear it:

A few of my favorites (who’s to say ‘best’, anyway)

Kid Charlemagne – Steely Dan/Larry Carlton
Roseanna – Toto/Steve Lukather
Easter – Marillion/Steve Rothery
Firth of Fifth – Genesis/Steve Hackett
Whispering a Prayer – Steve Vai
I need to pick a Journey/Neil Schon and a Queensryche/Wilton-Degarmo solo
Black Coffee in Bed – Squeeze/Glenn Tilbrook
Funeral For a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding – Elton John/Davey Johnston
Get the Funk Out –Extreme/Nuno
Sultans of Swing – Dirre Straits/Mark Knopfler
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof – Brian Stezer
2nd votes for the Comfortably Numb/Hotel California and Stairway to Heaven trifecta and I feel the need to add Rock Around the Clock/Bill Haley to that list

Can’t believe Kevan didn’t put Shawn Lane’s Watchtower on there…and did nobody mention Crazy Train yet?!?!?

Check this out when you get a chance: http://guitar.about.com/library/bl10...PM=ss12_guitar

Lots of the ones mentioned here. But some notables in my books:

Genesis - Firth of Fifth (original version, and live "The Way We Walk" tour version)

Ozzy - Crazy Train (kick ass solo, Randy was amazing)

Metallica:
-One
-Fade to Black
-Nothing Else Matters
-Bleeding Me
-Unforgiven

I forgot to mention three of my faves

Blue Sky
Jessica
Ramblin' Man

All Allman Brothers. Prefect solos, IMO.

My definition of a 'perfect solo' is on that becomes part of the song in a very conscious way...like Hotal CA, Stairway, Bohemian Rhapsody, Etc.

Ok, it's really hard to pick a favorite solo when I have nearly all of Shrapnel Records catalogue, all of Vai's stuff, all of Yngwie, Satch, you name it lol. But, I think this Yngwie solo may be it. It is off of a song called, "I Can't Wait", off the EP of the same name. Kind of a cheesy song, but the solo owns! I know a lot of you hate Yngwie, but give this a listen. I love Yngwie's vibrato, note choice, and everything about this solo. Check it:
